Drama Department News – September 2012

A visit from The National Theatre of Scotland

We were very pleased to welcome The National Theatre of Scotland to Barrhead High School on Monday 10th September. Pupils from the S3 and S4 Intermediate Drama classes got to see two fantastic performances. In the afternoon we saw ‘Yellow Moon’ and the evening performance was ‘Monster in the hall’.

Pupils and staff thoroughly enjoyed the shows and it was an excellent opportunity for the students to watch a professional theatre company at work.

We would like to say a big thank you to the actors and production crew from The National Theatre of Scotland and a big thank you to Eastwood Park Theatre. We hope you will visit Barrhead high School again in the future.

Some quotes from the audience:

It was just fab!”

Donna, S4

The storylines were very good.”

Craig, S4

The acting was inspirational!”

Penny, S4

It was very good. It made me happy.”

Michael, S4

Barrhead to get a New School

Since I took up post of Head Teacher of Barrhead High School over two years ago, East Renfrewshire Council has made clear its commitment to pursuing a new building to replace present one, which is now over 40 years old.

As part of a £1.25 billion investment by the Scottish Government, announced today, which will see the construction of 67 new schools across the country, that goal is due to become a reality very soon.

The plan is for the new school to be ready by August 2015 and it will be sited close to the existing building. We will keep you up to date with the plans as they develop.

This is great news for the school and for the community and we are very excited about the benefits it will bring for the education of our pupils.

Andy Sinclair, Head Teacher
