S1 – Geography Models

Some of our S1 Geography classes were asked to make a model of a place or feature from anywhere in the world.

Students were to incorporate their name it their model as well.

The results were excellent and a big thank you to all the Mums & Dads, grans & papas who helped the class with their work.

Mini Trials – Paisley Sheriff Court

Well done to the S5/6 pupils who took part in the Mini Trials at Paisley Sheriff Court on Saturday the 24th of November, along with all the other East Renfrewshire Council schools.

The pupils spent the day being advocates defending their clients with great skill, winning both of their cases! The students were a credit to the school and looked extremely smart in their school uniforms.

The attending lawyers and judges at the Paisley Sheriff Court were impressed by the very high standard of performance of the Barrhead team, commenting on the preparation that went in to the performance on the day. All of the Barrhead pupils have been invited back to the high court by the Procurator Fiscal in order to shadow the professionals conducting real cases!

We are certain that there are some budding lawyers in this group!

Senior boys basketball win

Barrhead’s senior boys basketball team recently travelled to Johnstone High school for their third away game of the season.

Johnstone High are competing in the league for the first time this year and this allowed a number of Barrhead’s fringe players to stake a claim for more court time.

Another good 1st quarter from Craig Campbell and Scott MacCuish got Barrhead into a commanding lead.  Fraser Black, Jon Faulds and Stewart Booth were used sparingly, but controlled possession for Barrhead High when on court.  Max Curran and Colin Redmond worked tirelessly at both ends of the court claiming rebounds.  Barrhead eventually ran out 28 – 69 winners.  Well done to all the boys involved.

Homework Club for S1/2

We have commenced a Homework Club open to pupils in S1 and S2. It will run after school on a Tuesday (starting tonight) and give pupils the opportunity to get their homework done in a quiet place with teachers on hand to offer support. If that sounds like a good idea for your son or daughter, please encourage them to make use of this opportunity.

S6 presentation on donating blood

Our S6 pupils today at assembly received a presentation from the Scottish National Blood Transfusion Service.  Francis Steel – from the service – explained to the year group how important it is to donate blood and gave some real life stories about patients who had received blood in the past and some patients who still receive blood today.

Mrs Crawford reminded S6 pupils, who wished to donate, that the Blood Transfusion Service will be at the Sports Centre in Barrhead on Thursday 29 November and encouraged our students to think carefully about becoming donors now or in the future.
