Please find the Supported Study Timetable for January and February leading up to the senior school prelims starting on the 8th of February. As you prepare for the upcoming prelims we would strongly recommend that you attend all of the sessions that are relevant to your subject.
All of the sessions will start immediately at the end of the school day and last for one hour. For more information about the individual sessions please speak to your class teachers or the Principal teacher of the department in question.
Scholar – an online resource developed by Heriot Watt university – have been updating and extending their courses to fit with the new National 5, Higher and Advanced Higher courses.
Scholar is an exciting resource that allows students to access free course materials for a variety of subjects. In addition Scholar have been running Live Homework Sessions, which have proved particularly popular.
Students will require their Scholar login details to access these resources; speak to either your class teacher about obtaining these or see Mr Boag in Maths.
Great news just through this evening – the finance for the new school has been approved. Finance Secretary John Swinney gave the go-ahead late this afternoon for 12 new capital investment projects worth £330m including ten schools … but most importantly for us, listing Barrhead High School as one of them.
We have no word as yet of the proposed timescale but he stated that “I am able today to advise local authorities … that they can proceed to contract award with the hub projects under the revised model”.
I will keep pupils, staff and parents fully up-dated as things develop. In the meantime, we are happy to welcome this significant step towards the provision of facilities that the whole Barrhead community has been waiting for and deserve.
Barrhead High’s Primary 7 Showcase Event takes place this evening [Wed, 25th Nov] between 7pm and 8pm.
Parents will get a chance to visit various departments within the school and can ask questions on courses, progression or how much homework do students typically receive.
In addition, parents and pupils can visit the stalls in the dining hall to find out about other awards, extra curricular clubs and activities students can get involed with.
We look forward to meeting you later this evening.
Well done to S3 students Ailidh Hamilton, Brogan Meechan and Peter Douglas-Kellie who took part in the annual Rotary Club Youth Speaks competition last week, hosted this year by Mearns Castle High School.
The team delivered an excellent presentation on ‘The Commercialisation of Christmas’ and were runners up in the senior category. Ailidh was the team’s main speaker, while Brogan chaired the presentation and Peter delivered Barrhead High School’s vote of thanks.
