Nostalgia is just not what it used to be!

This Friday (23/6) will be the last day for pupils in the old Barrhead High School. A special day has been planned for them.

However this Thursday evening (22/6) will offer a last opportunity for former pupils, staff and community to visit the old building. The building will be open from 6 pm until 9 pm

Take your chance to meet old friends, possibly see a former teacher, sit in your desk in your old English classroom or walk through the staff corridor – even chap the Head Teacher’s door – but be ready to run!

We just ask you to phone or email in to let us know numbers – over 400 have already booked in – and we will email you tickets.

DOFE – Assessed Expedition

A reminder to our senior,  timetabled Bronze DOFE class: The bronze assessed expedition is on Tuesday, 20th and Wednesday, 21st June.

Can students please meet at the school for 8.45am on Tuesday morning. You will travel to Drumfrochar train station by minibus, before commencing your expedition.

Please arrive prepared for a full day of walking. Can I urge students to think about the amount of food/kit/clothes they brought on the practice expedition and to adjust according. Please also ensure all clothing, sleeping bag and roll mat are placed inside thick rubble bags.

The cost of this expedition is £20, which should be paid through parentpay as soon as possible.

Thanks

Fond Farewells!

With the old school due to close this summer, we are having a couple of special events.

On what is now the last day for pupils,  Fri 23rd June , there will be a number of events for pupils throughout the day to celebrate the “End of an Era”. Some activities will involve reflection on the change and some will be activities like we have used before in our Summer Fayre Day.

On the evening of Thurs 22nd June, from 6pm – 9 pm, we are opening the school for former pupils, parents, staff etc to have a final look around – sit in their old classroom, maybe meet some old friends, or run down the staff corridor and chap the Head Teacher’s door!

You will require to contact the school in advance on either 0141 577 2100    or email    tickets@barrhead.e-renfrew.sch.uk. Posters will be going up around the town (link below). I am sure some of you will want to pay your respects to what would have been an important part of your life history.

New Arrangements to Help Prepare for the Move to the New School

The letter attached below was issued to all S1-S3 pupils last week and will be issued to other yeargroups on their return from Study Leave next week.

East Renfrewshire were last week given permission for 3 exceptional closure days for pupils to allow staff to prepare for the move to the new building.

The school will now close for pupils on Friday 23rd June instead of Tuesday 27th June as originally planned. The new school will open to pupils after the holidays on Thursday 17th August, one day later than originally planned.

Teachers will be in school on these days and the time will be used on the June days to help pack up the items that require to move to the new school, and on the August day, to unpack at the other side.

I recognise this may cause inconvenience for some parents but I hope all parents will appreciate the scale of the task facing us at this time and the necessity for this additional time to ensure the new school is ready for pupils arriving in August.

The letter also draws attention to an opportunity to buy uniform from Mansworld in the school on Monday 12th June.
