Question Time Invite

Image result for question time graphicsKerry Sloan, an S6 Modern Studies pupil in Williamwood High School, has sent an invitation to pupils, parents and staff to attend a local Question Time event, which she has been organising.

 It will be held on Monday 19th November from 7.30 to 9.00 pm and it is a free event where you just show up on the evening.

The panel will consist of Kirsten Oswald (SNP), Paul O’Kane (Labour councillor), Paul Smith (Conservative) and one S6 panellist.

This is the perfect opportunity to get pupils involved with politics and to scrutinise their local representatives – particularly worthwhile for Modern Studies pupils!! – but all are welcome.

smartSTEMs (S1, Girl-Only) Event

All S1 girls are invited to attend the smartSTEMs event on Friday, 30th November.

The smartSTEMs event is a FREE event for S1 girls only. Girls will be out of school all day, and lunch is usually provided free of charge.

The smartSTEMs event brings together different Science, Engineering, Technology and Maths (STEM) companies to allow young people to fully understand how vital STEM skills are.  Last year’s event had a number of virtual reality companies showcasing  VR headsets and drones, as well as the The Royal Navy with an engineering challenge and the Forestry Commission highlighting sustainability.

Students are given the opportunity to get involved with the challenges, drones and VR headsets, as well as ask questions about future careers and jobs. There is also the chance to win some vouchers for your school, or a drone for yourself.

If you are interested in attending this event, then please see Mr Boag (Maths) by Monday, 12th November.

I currently only have 10 places available, should more than 10 students ask to attend, then I will organise a ballot.

For more info, visit the smartSTEMs website.

STEM WEST Event (S3 students only)

Any S3 students wishing to attend the STEM West event on the 27th November should see Mr Boag by Monday, 12th Nov.

The STEM West event brings together different Science, Engineering, Technology and Maths (STEM) companies to allow young people to fully understand how vital STEM skills are.  Last year’s event had a number of virtual reality companies showcasing their VR headsets and software, as well as the NHS, The Royal Navy and the Forestry Commission.  Students are encouraged to get involved with what each employer is showcasing and to ask any questions they may have about how STEM subjects in school relate directly to careers.

For more info, download The STEM WEST Flyer.

S5/6 Parents’ Evening

S5-6 Parents NightA reminder to all S5/6 parents:

The S5/6 Parents’ Meeting will take place on Thursday, 8th November 2018 from 4pm – 6.30pm.

Students are currently making appointments with their teachers, and can do so up until 4pm on Thursday.

We look forward to welcoming you on the evening.

Severe Weather Procedures

 All pupils have now been issued with a letter detailing the procedures we would follow if the school had to be closed during the day.

In summary, we would text all ‘main contact’  parents to inform them of the planned closure and then operate a controlled dismissal where:

  • S1/2 pupils will only be allowed to leave once we have heard from parents on the day;
  • S3/4 pupils may be allowed to leave if parents have given consent in advance – otherwise we would require to hear on the day;
  • S5/6 pupils will be allowed to leave school unless you have told us otherwise.

See the letter for further details.

For pupils in S1, S2, S5 & S6, we only require a return of the tear-off slip if you require to give a new mobile number.

Pupils in S3 & S4 whose parent are giving consent in advance, require to return the slip.
