Strathclyde University have managed to modify and adapt their The Young WEIR-WISE: Discovering Engineering with S2 girls programme to allow our S2 girls to learn about STEM and engineering online.
The programme will run on the 26th and 27th April from 10am – 12.30pm both days.
In order to be part of the programme, students are required to complete a short application form and have this submitted by Wednesday, 17th February 2021.
In addition, Mr Boag is also required to submit a statement in support of any student’s application. It is therefore vital that any S2 girl applying for this event emails Mr Boag to make him aware.
Successful students will be notified, by email, by the 10th March.
For more information on the event and the sorts of challenges that are part of the programme, please visit Strathclyde University’s the Young WEIR-WISE website.
Students should email Mr Boag (PT STEM) to allow him to submit a teachers statement in support of the student application; email address gw08boagstuart2@glow.sch.uk
Students have to commit to attending both of the days above, if successful.
As part of the STEM Ambassador in Scotland Week a presentation will be given on working in the Space sector within Scotland. This is a growing sector with big ambitions.
Any student wishing to be involved with live presentation, on Thursday, 4th Feb at 11.30am, needs to register beforehand on Eventbrite.
All students are encouraged to provide feedback on how remote learning is working for you.
This is the same form that has been put on all year-group Google Classrooms, so if you have already completed it this week there is no need to complete this again.
If you leave a message with a contact number and a time (or day) that would suit you best, I will get back to you as soon as I can. My working days are normally Monday, Tuesday and Thursday, but appointments can be arranged for other days or times if necessary. Pupils have the option of coming into school, speaking on the phone or arranging a ‘walk and talk’ around Cowan Park.
The staff team at Barrhead High is committed to supporting our pupils, so please do not hesitate to get in touch if you feel the need.
In preparation for learning moving online next week, please be aware that a lot of online support can be found on our Digital Learning Webpage.
On this page you will find information on how students can access Glow, download Microsoft Office for FREE, Satchel (formerly Show My Homework), Google Classroom and how to keep your child safe while they are online.
Finally, if any student has difficulty accessing the online learning: whether that is having access to a device, accessing the internet, troubleshooting an error message, forgotten passwords or simply not getting access to the correct lessons, then please contact us using our ICT Support form:
