The uniform certainly was ready !!!

I stood at the school gates this morning and welcomed pupil after pupil arriving in full school uniform … exactly what we had been asking for – all-black shoes, appropriate skirts (for most) and blazers. The impression they made was stunning. I was very proud of them.
I have already received several messages and emails from people outside the school who had noticed and were complimenting us. I even had a pupil asking how quickly would a blazer be delivered if they ordered today – I think the few without the full uniform were feeling left out!!

I would like to thank all the parents for their superb support, and all the pupils for working with us to achieve this. I had a real sense of the pupils being not only proud of their school but also quite pleased with themselves. I am sure that this will encourage them to have a real confidence in themselves and and their school.
Thank you to you all – the results are fantastic!

Is your uniform ready?
As we communicated to pupils and parents last term, we are making a concentrated effort to raise the standard of uniform this session. We want everybody to see Barrhead High is a school we are all proud of.
We have asked all pupils to come back in August with the full uniform including a badged blazer, all-black shoes and girls’ skirts to be of an appropriate length (not more than 2 inches above the knee).
To assist with that we had all pupils measured for blazers in June with Mans World, the official suppliers for ERC (shop in Giffnock). Many have already purchased and collected their blazers through this arrangement – thank you to all of you who did that.

There are now only 4 shopping days left. Please ensure that you are ready to return on Wednesday wearing the full uniform and please do not buy items that will not be appropriate to our dress code. The uniform information and the latest Newsletter gives more information.
If we all work together on this we will help raise the profile of Barrhead High School in the community as an outstanding school!
Thank you

Outstanding Results !!!
Congratulations to all pupils who have contributed to another great set of SQA results for Barrhead High School.
S4 achieved our best ever percentage of pupils attaining 5 or more Int 2s (43%).

S5 achieved our best ever 1 or more Highers (53%) and 3 or more Highers (30%). Although they did not quite match last year’s S5 in their record-breaking 5 or more Highers for quantity, the quality this year was superb. Five pupils gained 5 A-pass Highers – another new record!
Our S6 also set a new record with over 17% attaining at least one Advanced Higher.

A special mention for Robert Downie who crowned his 6 years at Barrhead High with another 2 Highers and an Advanced Higher.
We are hoping Robert and some of our pupils may feature on Reporting Scotland at 6.30pm tonight (Tues) and in the national press tomorrow (the Herald and the Scotsman) as well as in our local Barrhead News.
A big well done to all the staff who worked hard with the pupils and to the parents for their support.

S2 – Climbed a mountain!
On Monday, 24th June, most of our S2 students had a school trip to Balmaha, where they climbed Conic Hill.
The weather was lovely, the views were exceptional and the students were a credit to the school! Well done to everyone that managed the climb.

Book Group
Members of Barrhead High School Book Group recently took part in East Renfrewshire’s Carnegie 2013 quiz which was held in Mearns Castle High School. Pupils from across the authority had read the eight short-listed books and then in teams answered questions. Highlights of the morning included the ‘Dialogue Round’, when teams had to identify conversations from each book, and the ‘Character Round’, which involved librarians parading on the catwalk, dressed up as a character from the books.
Barrhead pupils did very well, with Eilidh Weatherston and Robbie McLaughlin each winning a tagline competition and Aimee Long, Kirsty Robson and Megan Watson being in the team that came overall second.
Well done to all and many thanks to the school librarians for organising and to Mearns Castle for hosting this special event.
Happy reading!
