Edinburgh Book Festival

Monday 28 August

S2 and S3 Barrhead pupils visited Edinburgh Book Festival to hear the popular Zombie author, Darren Shan, read from his books and talk about his inspirations.

After a quick break, we went on to hear Lauren James and Philip Reeve discuss their different approaches to sci-fi writing.

Pupils had the chance to meet all authors and have books signed.

An enlightening time for all!!

DOFE – Assessed Expedition

A reminder to our senior,  timetabled Bronze DOFE class: The bronze assessed expedition is on Tuesday, 20th and Wednesday, 21st June.

Can students please meet at the school for 8.45am on Tuesday morning. You will travel to Drumfrochar train station by minibus, before commencing your expedition.

Please arrive prepared for a full day of walking. Can I urge students to think about the amount of food/kit/clothes they brought on the practice expedition and to adjust according. Please also ensure all clothing, sleeping bag and roll mat are placed inside thick rubble bags.

The cost of this expedition is £20, which should be paid through parentpay as soon as possible.

Thanks

DOFE – Kit Return

All S3 DOFE students: please be aware that your kit needs to be returned to The Edge on Thursday, 8th June between 5pm – 6pm.

Remember that in order to get your £50 deposit returned, all kit needs to be clean and dry.

Can I also remind students that tents should not be returned in parts. If you have split the tent from the poles and pegs, then it is your responsibility to ensure the entire tent is returned as one unit.

Important DOFE Change!

Can all S3, S5 & S6 DOFE students please note the change of time below:

Kit Issued from The Edge on Tues, 30th May at 5pm.

I have only been made aware of this change this morning. Students cannot be in The Edge after 6pm on Tuesday due to another meeting being held at that time.

Can I ask all DOFE students to spread this news on their own social media networks.

All parents will have had a text today, too!

S1 Rapid Response Challenge

Our S1 students are taking part in the Rapid Response Challenge today.

Rapid Response is ideally suited to Curriculum for Excellence as an interdisciplinary project which challenges pupils to consider the importance of STEM subjects – Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics.

Students compete in groups of 6 completing a variety of problem-solving tasks including purifying water, building shelters and transporting water.

Here’s hoping the weather holds!
