The study of History aims to:
• Develop knowledge and understanding of the variety of factors which have helped shape the world in which we live.
• Enable students to consider and evaluate continuity and change.
• Enable students to detect bias and propaganda and to challenge prejudice.
• Develop empathy with people living in other periods.
• Foster in students an interest which will provide a lifelong source of enjoyment.
Students will develop important skills throughout each of the courses available. These include evaluation and analysis of historical materials, essay writing and the ability to express and sustain a logical and coherent argument on a wide variety of issues. These skills are extremely relevant for many careers including law, journalism, the diplomatic service, the civil service, teaching, politics and the police.
