Fish release – 6th March

Paul the Scientist from the Science Centre brought plastic tubs to transport the fish. Some fish were alevins and some were fry. Every one in the class has at least two fish to release.

We walked ( in the pouring rain) down to Aurs Burn in the ABC park. This was the nearest burn to our school and it will eventually lead into the River Clyde.

We had in total over 120 fish that we had nurtured in our hatchery that we released safely into the wild.

Zak – It was fun releasing the fish. We got to talk to our friends on the way down.

Allanna  – It was sad because it was pouring with rain and also we had had the fish for a few weeks .

Sam –  It was emotional because we were letting the fish go and the rain was torrential and that made it worse.

Science Centre Trip Friday 18th January

As part of our learning about Clyde in the Classroom, we visited the science centre.

We got to visit the Science Mall and then  we had lunch,  after that we had more time to look at the different levels in the mall.

After that we went to the theatre to listen to a presentation from one of the Scientists on Clyde in the Classroom. We then had a talk from another Scientist who explained all about the hatchery and how to look after the eggs.

Ava – It was fun, my favourite part was the human sized hamster wheel.

Callum – the trip was interesting , My favourite part was sitting on the upside down couch.

Sam – The trip was amazing. My favourite part was the timed races.

Science – sound and vibration

In science we learned about sound. We did lots of practical experiments to learn how sound travels.

In ICT we used a search engine to research information on how animals communicate. We selected appropriate information and then created a PowerPoint presentation using Google slides using the information we researched.

Leonna – I really like the tuning fork experiment when the water flew out of the cup.

Zoe – I was interested in learning how animals can communicate with each other.

Nathan M  – I enjoyed watching the video clips showing how sound travels through the air.
