Debate

We had a fantastic time at the Eastwood Council Chambers yesterday and the debate was fantastic!

Excellent arguments were made by both sides and the end result was so close,  by only 3 votes, the motion was carried and the house believed that social media apps should be banned to those under 16.

Well done councillors, reporters and those sitting in the gallery.

You were a credit to Mearns Primary!

Debate

For the past week 7.27 have been practising and preparing for our debate which is happening on Monday.

In literacy we have been focusing on talking and listening skills, like agreeing and disagreeing and backing our points up with research and statistics.

Today we had a practise for our real debate, chose the councillors and the reporters. It was really great and everyone made valid points. We can’t wait for Monday and will be back again to share how it went!

What do you think… should the minimum age to use social media apps be set at 16?

Parts of a Circle

In 7.27 we have been learning about the properties and parts of a circle.

We investigated how to calculate the radius, diameter and circumference and took note of our formula.

Then we cut out some circles, found the centers and used our formula and rulers to find the radius, diameter and circumference of each one.

Finally we were taught how to use a compass and we were given an extra challenge task to do. We had to draw circles with specific radius and diameters given. This was tricky but we were able to persevere and tackle the problem!

We then got to colour in our circles and add some snazzy designs.

We self-assessed our work to show something new that we learned and colour coded it to show our confidence level.

Maths is fun!

BIG BREAKFAST 2019

Today we had a big breakfast in our classroom.

The reason we had this big breakfast is because we are raising money for the stv appeal to help children in poverty.

Our breakfast included muffins, brioche buns with jam ,butter, milk, cereal and fruit. Thank you so much to the local shops who donated food to us.

We have been researching and making PowerPoints all about poverty in Scotland and we found out that 220 000 people live in poverty and often have to choose between heating their homes or eating.

In 7.27 this has really made us think how lucky we are and we hope to have raised some money to add to the £19 million that the appeal has already generated in the past 8 years.
