Remote Learning Day 1️⃣

Hello everyone 🌈

A bit of a different morning for us all today. We have tried hard to keep things as “normal” as possible. We started this morning, as we normally do, with some relaxing music, the register and CBBC Newsround.

We then heard some news from the weekend. Seher Noor has been busy making profiteroles 😋 and Cora made some bread 🥖. Heather also shared that she put up all of her Christmas decorations at the weekend 🎄.

I then posted some Literacy and Numeracy work, as well as a new Solar System Project. I also posted the first part of our Quiz Night Challenge. Some children completed their work on paper, and others on Google Doc. I have attached a few examples below …

Notan Art with Cora 💛

Last week, Cora won our ‘Star if the Week’ 🌟 by winning the most Dojo points! This week, she taught a short art lesson to the children as a reward. She decided to teach Notan Art. Notan is a Japanese term which means ”light dark harmony”. Artists use “notan studies” to explore different arrangements of light and dark elements in a painting, without having the distraction of other elements like colour, texture and finer details.

Eastwood Information

Today, we had a look at some videos that were sent through from Eastwood High School. I have added all of these videos to the Google Classroom, so that the children can share these with their parents.

Mearns Castle videos are on their way and will be shared ASAP 😊.

Exciting times for our P7 pupils 🌟.

Problem solving and mapping outdoors

Today we returned to last week’s number square challenge and quite a few groups were delighted that we did as they were able to work it through fully and find a solution. Look at the delight and pride in these faces!

We then moved on to playing some mapping games remembering to hold our maps the correct way round, always making sure we know where north is.

Art Competition 🖼 ✍️

The Golden Oreos created a fantastic art drawing competition for the class this morning, as part of their reward for winning group of the week.

1 – Animal/Food. The children had to create a funny and creative picture including an animal and food. Below are our winners Cora, Lucy and Zac – well done! 🌟

2 – Space picture 🌝💫💥🌏. Below are our winners Laibach, Cora and Taya – well done! 🌟

Outdoor problem solving

Despite the constant drizzly rain all afternoon we all managed to take part and enjoy our first outdoor learning session with Mrs Kelly.

After starting off with some literacy warm up games we worked in teams to solve a magic number square problem. Here are some photos of us working together and a video that captures some of our discussions and learning….can you spot our perplexed faces as we try to solve the problem?

Ambition 🌟

Today, we started preparing for our ambition assembly. We started by talking about our dreams and goals for the future. We then looked at different professions and real life stories, using a BBC resource. Finally, we started to create our our vision boards looking at where we want to live, what job we want to have, what qualities we would like people to see in us, etc…

We finished today’s session by looking at the steps we need to take to make these dreams a reality.  We started our own personal script, which will be recorded later in the week. We can’t wait to share these with you!

“Set your goals high, and don’t stop till you get there.” 🌟🌟
