Maths Week Scotland

We did lots of fun activities during Maths Week Scotland and included maths in some of our other subject areas!

Solar System Scale:

We saw that when we looked at images on the internet, the planets of our solar system seemed equally spaced out. We then tested this by dividing the distance from the sun by the scale (1 meter=150 million km) and spaced the planets out  based on the calculations across the playground.

Scavenger Hunt:

Mrs Paul had hid different calculations across our daily mile route we worked in pairs to find the answers. We did multiplication, division and word problems on the scavenger hunt.

PE fitness game:

Mrs Paul set out some objects and stuck numbers to them. We were put in teams of five and she shouted out numbers. We did a division where if she shouted 56 then the first person in the team would run to 7&8 and then run back. We also did a multiplication one were Mrs Paul might shout 4x_= 24 and you would have to run to 6.

Origami 3Dshapes and properties:

On youtube we followed along to a live origami webinar and learned how to make a cube and  it was very difficult. Only a few people managed to complete it but lots of other people made really cool things too.

Maths quiz:

We joined in with other Primary 7 classes across East Renfrewshire and took part in an online quiz. Before the online quiz we had been sent out a number of codes to crack. There was a round on famous mathematicians and general maths knowledge. We came 10th place in both rounds and got them all.
