Values Day! 🌟

We had such a fabulous day celebrating our school values!

We started off by designing our very own t-shirts and got to watch a film. πŸ‘šπŸ‘•

After break we put on our super t-shirts and went outside for a silent disco. 🎧 We all had a pair of headphones and had a great boogie! We also played some games and did the conga. We had a dance competition and our best dancers were Asim and Casey! πŸ₯³πŸ’ƒπŸ•Ί

After lunch we watched a live magician act on google meet. πŸ’« Β We were blown away with the magic tricks we saw. The magician, Billy, did some card tricks and also a cool trick with a Rubik’s Cube. Β Lastly, we went outside for a music concert with music by Tom McGuire and the Hairy Hippies. 🎢

Musical investigations outdoors

Today was a bit drizzly, but it didn’t dampen our enthusiasm as we played some word building warm up games using vowels and consonants written on stones.

After that we explored music, learning about rhythm using a variety of outdoor materials to play groups of rhythms together. We learned to keep the beat with our feet, we called this the heartbeat. Then we fitted rhythms into these beats. Today we learned β€œta” Β and β€œte te”.

Football

Miss Hunter thought we had worked SO hard and we deserved a fun afternoon watching the Scotland and Czech Republic football game.
During the game we created posters, flags and our own football strips. We really enjoyed watching the first half and gave Scotland a big cheer!

Story Writing – La LunaπŸŒ™πŸ’«

Today for our writing we watched a short video clip called β€œLa Luna”. The clip shows a little boy who goes fishing for stars on the moon. 🎣 ⭐️ We had a discussion through the clip and then used the video as a stimulus to create our own star and moon stories. Some of us retold the story, others decided to write a story about finding a star, some of us wrote stories about fishing and being in the ocean. I just loved how creative everyone was! On the last week of school, we are going to redraft our stories and create a front cover for our La Luna story! We will take these home so you can enjoy reading them too.

Place value challenges

The wet weather today meant plans had to be changed and we took part in different activities and challenges to develop our understanding of place value.

We used number stones and rainbow sticks and worked together in teams to create lots of different numbers.

With the rainbow sticks we counted how many of each colour we had then decided which should be hundreds tens and units to make the largest and smallest numbers possible.

And with the number stones we moved them around to see just how many numbers we could make out of the stones we had gathered. Our team work was fantastic today and we really worked together well to help us all understand place value a little better.

Monday Maths! πŸ‘

We had a busy afternoon yesterday! Firstly, did some mental maths and then created some maths questions for our friends to answer.
The diamonds enjoyed playing a board game on time and then learned about half past times. The stars were busy doing some revision work and then learned a new concept in time – quarter past. The hearts were learning to read measurements and checking for a zero on the scale and working out what the scale goes up in.

Story Writing

Today we wrote our own stories but through the eyes of a character. We watched a fun clip from The Literacy Shed of some diving giraffes. We all found it really funny! Our task was to pretend to be the giraffe and write about the experience, making sure to comment on feelings and using descriptive language to describe the setting. We even tried writing in paragraphs!
Here are a few examples of our work.
