SSPCA & Dams to Darnley

Today we were visited by a person from the SSPCA. He told us about all the amazing things they do and we really enjoyed looking at all the pictures of the animals they have helped.

Later we had the Dams to Darnley park ranger in telling us about his work. We learned about the different wildlife that inhabits there and also found out how the dams are drained and filled. It was very interesting and we had some excellent questions.

Kindness

Today we spoke about being kind to each other through our words. We sat in a circle and passed two apples around. To the first apple we said unkind words such as-  ‘I don’t like you,’ ‘you’re stinky,’ ‘you’re ugly.’ To the second apple we said lovely things such as ‘you are beautiful,’ ‘You smell nice,’ ‘You are lots of fun.’

We talked about how the apples would feel on the inside (even though they looked fine on the outside). Mrs Stephenson then cut the apples in half. The one we were kind to looked bright and healthy on the inside, the one we were mean to looked dull and bruised.

We discussed that when we say unkind things to people, although they might look fine on the outside, on the inside they will feel really sad ☹️

To finish our circle time, we said lovely kind words to each other and all felt great afterwards 🤩

Letter of thanks

The children were all very keen to discuss the recent fire at Mearns Primary. We took the opportunity this afternoon to explore fire safety and decided to write a letter of thanks to the fire service. This letter has been sent for the attention of Clarkston fire station. As you will be aware, the fire service arrived within minutes of the fire being reported and as a result our classroom was left unharmed. We are very thankful for the work that they do.

Gym time !

There’s no better way to start the week than to get moving! We are very lucky to have our P.E time just before playtime on a Monday morning- it sets us up for a great day of learning.  Today, Mrs McCarron was teaching us all about moving safely around the games hall. We had to run along the lines, avoiding our peers (and the big crocodiles ah!). It was great fun. She was also testing our listening  and giving us lots of different instructions as we moved around the room. Mrs Stephenson was especially impressed with how quickly we stopped when Mrs McCarron blew her whistle ! We were great! Riley & Lochlan were fantastic at demonstrating side steps to the class – well done !
