Today we were practising both our number and letter formation. We are continuing to focus on correctly forming numbers to 10 (although we are now exploring numbers to 20) and today our sound was āgā.

On Wednesday afternoons we visit the music room with our specialist music teacher Mrs Fingland.
Today we were learning the names of lots of different instruments.
We were a little tired at the beginning of this lesson after a busy morning (and chasing our friends at lunchtime), but Mrs Fingland was able to energise us with some fun activities šš»
We have made a few changes in our classroom to help maintain our engagement and extend our learning.
-Our role play corner is now a class shop where we are learning about different coins.
-For construction we are now using Kapla and are having lots of fun creating different structures. It is also proving to be beneficial for our team working skills!
-As we are learning numbers to 20, we now have a magnetic dart board which is very popular ! We throw our darts and have to call the number we land on.
We love to play and learn š
Today we learned the sound ārā. We wrote the letter underneath our rabbits and identified different objects with ārā as their initial sound. When writing our letters, we are making sure we start from the right place. This is very important! Ā We also enjoyed printing some letters with paint and making words!
During our Literacy time today we practiced our letter formation, blended sounds to read words, made words using cubes and matched initial sounds to objects.

Today we had our first fire drill where we had to evacuate the school. The children responded quickly to the alarm and we were able to assemble on to the pitch in a good time. Some were a little scared when the alarm sounded but have since been reassured š
At our whole school assembly, the children were given their first house challenge. This was to create a family poem based on the school values. If you would like to participate, these are to be completed and handed in on Friday.
This afternoon we visited the ICT room. Mrs Stephenson helped us log on to the computers and then we went on to Active Inspire to practise our mouse skills. We found this quite tricky last week but were much more confident this week šš»

We had lots of fun during our art time today. Our focus was on the use of colour, including colour mixing, and how this has been explored by various artists. We attempted to replicate the work of the artists Vincent Van Gogh, Wassily Kandinsky, Paul Klee and Joan Miro. We rotated around the stations in our houses working both independently and as part of a group. We used lots of different media including paint, oil pastels, pen and pencil. It was a very busy and messy morning!

We are now in week 3 and the boys and girls are already fantastic with their morning routine. They come into class, take their jacket off, unpack their folder, snack and water bottle from their bag and put their bag in the correct box. We then check the register and order lunches š
A special thanks to parents for leaving homework diaries opened inside folders- I have been able to read through them really quickly!
A small reminder about houses. Your child will have a colour on their folder which indicates which house they belong to. The houses are as follows;
Cedar – blue
Maple – red
Beech – green
Poplar – purple
Oak – yellow
House groups are used for our classroom organisation, masterclasses and school challenges.
Mrs Stephenson š
Thank you for joining us for lunch today. The boys and girls were thrilled to eat with you. Some were a little sad to see you go but not to worry, only a few hours to go until they see you again š
