STEM Visit

Fiona Hawthorn from Network Rail joined us virtually to tell us about her job. It was really interesting to learn about what’s involved in her job, engineering, technology and transport!

We got the opportunity to ask questions too and we came up with some brilliant questions.

We were then tasked with designing our own train of the future. πŸš‚ 🚞 πŸš†

Sports science

We had lots of fun outside completing different races with Brandon the Active Schools coordinator. We took part in the javelin throw, tug of war, flat race and egg and spoon race.

Outdoor Wonder!

On Friday whilst outside for PE and Values Play, Leo noticed a little worm and was worried that it would get stood on. He wanted to show me his new friend and also asked if he could move it to a safer place. I just loved how this sparked some scientific chat and his enthusiasm! Some of the other boys and girls were interested in what Leo was doing so he explained to them and then gave the worm a new home. Some unexpected STEM learning! πŸ™‚

More STEM fun today!

We had lots of fun looking at rocks under a microscope. πŸ”¬ The boys and girls loved this and their reactions and comments were amazing were fabulous. I even recorded some of their discussions/thoughts/answers. We then looked at some dirty things like my shoes and someone’s finger nails. We found it quite disgusting but also very funny.

We had an art station today where some of the children created their own germ characters with paint. 🎨 🦠

This afternoon for writing, we wrote instructions for how to get rid of germs and wash our hands properly. We included what materials are needed and step by step instructions in order.

The boys and girls continued having fun playing doctors, building construction items, and also looking at weights and making patterns.

Kickstarting STEM Fortnight

There was a lot of excitement this morning as it is the beginning of STEM fortnight. STEM stands for science, technology, engineering and maths. I have planned lots of exciting things for us to do over the 2 weeks.

Here are some photos from this morning. We tried out out sneezing again using the snot bottle and measured the distance our sneezes went. We then investigated how far germs can travel using glitter. During play, some of the children visited the doctors surgery, some were keen to weigh objects, including themselves, others were engineers and built their own creations using Lego and K-Nex, and some wanted to play on the laptops.

World Book Day

We had a fabulous day celebrating World Book Day!

We started off by having a costume parade and the boys and girls showed off their wonderful costumes and told us what character they were dressed up as and what book their character was from.
We started a class novel last week and we read some of it today. It is called β€˜Fatbag, The Demon Vacuum Cleaner.’ We are loving it!
We listened to the Glasgow Gruffalo being read aloud and then created our own gruffalo masks. We had some quiet time and enjoyed reading our own books, which is called ERIC – everyone reading in class. We made our own bookmarks for our books too. Finally, we watched the β€˜Masked Reader’ video clips that the management created. We had to guess who was reading us a story!
