Science

This term we have been working hard and having lots of fun doing Science. We’ve learned about materials and their properties. We have designed and made mini umbrellas, which we then tested by pouring water over them. We were very happy to discover that most of them worked really well and came up with ideas of how to improve the ones that didn’t work.

We have talked about living and non-living things. We are able to tell what the features of living things are and sort them into different categories and explain our decision.

We have also looked at the examples of forces (pushing, pulling and twisting) in the classroom and in the playground, predicting how applying more or less force would change the speed and direction at which objects moves.

Session 2019/2020

Welcome to p1.4’s blog. My name is Mrs Stephenson and I will be p1.4’s class teacher on Mondays, Tuesdays and alternate Wednesdays. Mrs O’Donnell will be class teacher on alternate Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays. If you ever need to speak to either of us, please contact the school office, write a note in your child’s homework diary or catch us at drop off/pick up 🙂

Through this blog, you will be able to keep up to date with everything we are doing in school. Primary 1 is such a fantastic year of learning and we hope to capture as much as possible for you.

Our first few days have been busy. We are learning new routines and familiarising ourselves with our classroom and school. We have also started our Jolly Phonics program today and learned the sound ‘s’. Please ask us to show you the action when we learn a new sound- it’s great to help us remember! Homework will begin next week to enable you to support your child at home.

Thank you,

Mrs Stephenson
