What is Pastoral Care?

All young people are assigned to a Pastoral Care teacher who supports them throughout their school life. Families are kept in the same House group to maintain consistency for parents and families and to promote good relationships between school and home. The Pastoral Care teachers are the key link between school and home. Pupils can access their Pastoral Care teacher at any time, although there is a clear programme of interviews which take place at key stages in the school year. Pastoral Care teachers also have a responsibility for monitoring progress and attendance as well as pastoral concerns.

There are four House Groups in Turnbull High School:

  • St. Andrew – Miss Henry
  • St. Kentigern – Mr. Hendrie
  • Marian – Mrs. Britton
  • St. Teresa – Mrs. Hoey

On any occasion where there is a cause for concern, Pastoral Care staff will contact parents by telephone, email or letter. Similarly, parents are urged to inform Pastoral Care staff of any circumstances which may affect their child’s progress or behaviour in school.
