S3

The PSE course in the Broad General Education (S1-S3) covers the key areas of Planning for Choices and Change, Substance Misuse, Relationships and Health. These come from the Education Scotland Benchmarks for Personal and Social Education and the Curriculum for Excellence Experiences and Outcomes.

S3 PSE is not taught as a discreet subject like in S1 and S2.  It is integrated into the S3 curriculum and each department will take their turn in delivering the PSE lessons.

S3 PSE Course Outline

Planning for Choices and Change

Pupils will explore the ‘My World of Work’ website. There are 5 lessons where they will identify their strengths and this can help them to make decisions about their future.

They will also be given a careers talk from our Skills Development Scotland Careers Officer, Karen Stewart. She will then interview every S3 pupil to discuss their future planning.

Substance Misuse

In this section, we move on to studying the effects of cannabis and looking at the short term and long term impact on health.

Emotional Health and Wellbeing

In this section we explore self-esteem using a programme of lessons developed by Dove. We discuss positive body image and the pressures that are placed on young people.

Relationships

In this section of lessons we explore the concept of unhealthy images and look at behaviours in relationships that are not positive.
