The PSE course in the Broad General Education (S1-S3) covers the key areas of Planning for Choices and Change, Substance Misuse, Relationships and Health. These come from the Education Scotland Benchmarks for Personal and Social Education and the Curriculum for Excellence Experiences and Outcomes for Health and Wellbeing.
S1 PSE Course Outline
Unit 1 – Introduction to School Life
This unit helps to introduce pupils to the routines of secondary school life and introduces them to the Wellbeing indicators. (SHANARRI)
Unit 2 – Bullying
We focus here on building positive relationships and showing respect to others. This unit includes discussion of the United Nations Rights of the Child.
Unit 3 – The Real Game
A guide to the world of work. pupils are allocated a job role which gives them the opportunity to explore budgeting, work life balance and career making decisions.
Unit 4 – Substance Misuse
In S1, the focus is tobacco and alcohol education.
Unit 5- Supporting Learners
This is done at key times throughout the school year in preparation for pupil interview with their Key Adult. The focus here is on reflection of progress and good work and study routines.
Unit 6 – Relationships
The final unit examines how to resolve conflict in relationships.
