In addition to the standard English course delivered to all S1 pupils, we have recently launched a dedicated S1 Literacy Programme, aimed at raising attainment in literacy by providing pupils with the opportunity to consolidate and further develop their basic skills in literacy.

All S1 pupils attend a dedicated Literacy period once a week that is designed to allow for specific focus to be made on those skills that each individual pupil needs to work on.  Pupils will make use of an online programme called ‘Literacy Planet’ and will complete activities and assignments appropriate to the level of each individual pupil while their progress is closely monitored to ensure the greatest opportunity for success.

‘Literacy Planet’, is an online literacy platform, available as an app for both mobiles and tablets, making it easily accessible for all.  This is a fully interactive program that encourages pupils to revise and strengthen their literacy skills, while at the same time offering pupils the chance to broaden their knowledge through free study and learn through fun and enjoyable games and puzzles.

 

Each pupil is assigned their own individual log-in, meaning that teaching staff are able to receive in-depth, individualised result information and track the progress of each and every pupil.

We would also encourage pupils and parents to make use of Literacy Planet from home, working together to build and further develop skills which are vita to supporting learning in all subjects across the school.
