For pupils in S1 to S3, we have created a core writing checklist that helps pupils to focus on their basic literacy skills in writing. These core targets are taken from the Curriculum for Excellence Benchmarks and are aimed at pupils working at, or towards level 3.
This checklist appears on the back of all assessment flysheets that are used within pupil PLPs and is the same criteria used by the teacher when assessing the literacy skills of a piece.
This checklist is also being rolled out across the school in line with work related to Literacy Across Learning. Pupils are encouraged to read over finished work and self-assess using the checklist. They can also use the checklist during the writing process, to remind them of the basic skills they need to include.
Why not make use of the checklist yourself when reading your child’s work? It will help to guide your discussion and perhaps suggest areas that your child could focus on.
