World Book Day
3/3/2022
Today is World Book Day 📚 and we have many different activities on offer in the centre today.
We also have a lending library at the front door of the centre which we would love for you to participate in. Please have a look and see if any books take your fancy to borrow, read and enjoy.
We would love to hear your favourite parts of these books as you return them, please don’t hesitate to talk to a member of staff or your child’s keyworker about our lending library.
Big Bedtime Read

This week marks the start of our big bedtime read.
Your child will get the chance to take a story sack home to read and explore the matching resources. We would love if you could take the chance to read this bedtime story to your child and return the story sack the day after. Taking the time to read to your child is a great bonding activity and gives you a good opportunity to chat after a busy day.
We would really appreciate if you could take the time to talk to a member of staff from your child‘s room about this experience and their favourite bedtime reads.
Christmas Activity Suggestions
As we are fast approaching the Christmas season we would like to invite families to share any activities or experiences you have planned, or yearly family traditions, with us at Whatriggs.
Whether it’s a Christmas story, baking, crafts, outings or putting up decorations with your child. We would love for you to share these magical moments with us. You can do this on the blog, your child’s learning journals, or with a member of staff.
Within the centre we will all be busy with planning Christmas activities throughout December. If you have any ideas or suggestions that you would like to contribute to this please feel free to do so through your usual choice of communication.
Pumpkin Trail 🎃

This year we brought back our annual pumpkin trail in the estate behind the school building. Even though we faced some vandalism to the trail we had a great time designing and creating a pumpkin in each play room, with some schools classes joining in also. We also had a great turnout of families adding their own pumpkins to the trail to make it as spooky as possible!
We can’t thank you enough for your contribution to the trail.

This month we have been promoting links at home by asking parents /carers to discuss family members with their child/children. We also asked parents/carers if they could supply us with pictures of their families in order for us to discuss these with the children. This will help us to develop home links with our families within the centre.

Thankyou to everyone that took the time to complete our questionnaire here are the results and the feedback has and will continue to help us support the children and families that use the ECC.

Thankyou to everyone that completed the questionnaire we really appreciate the feedback and it allows us to see what more we can do to ensure we are supporting the children that attend our ECC and their families just now and in the future. We are currently collating the information and hope to share this with you soon.
While looking at the feedback we noticed some similarities in what people are looking for a bit more support with and have shared some links below to information that will hopefully help address any worries you may have.
Here are some links to the Whatriggs P1 transition page (for 2020 transition but still very helpful) highlighting what the priorities are for children getting ready to start school in August. You can find more information on transitions via the link on the main page here on the ECC BLOG.
January 2021
So we are all staying at home again, while at home maybe you could give your child/children some small jobs that they can be responsible for around the house. Children love to be given responsibility and get a great feeling of pride when they achieve something.
Your child could be given responsibility for setting the table, how many people are there? how many fork/knives/cups? Can they count them as they go?
They could help to sort the recycling – which item goes in which bin? can they recognise the materials? Which bin has most items? can you find out what happens to the materials you are recycling? what sort of things can be made form them?
Maybe your child could be responsible for making their own bed or putting away some clean clothes or dishes?
Encourage your child/children to tidy up after themselves e.g. put away their toys, put their dishes into the kitchen etc…
What other responsibilities can you give to your child to help around the house? We would love to see pictures/videos of them helping out and what a great sense of pride they will feel.
