Easter Bonnet Parade – Wednesday 30th March. 🌼🐥🥚
The children were asked to create an Easter bonnet in order to have a traditional Easter Bonnet Parade. They were all given a paper plate and some craft resources to get them started. The response has been absolutely brilliant! Well done to everyone who took part. This activity was to encourage the children to use their design skills to make their bonnets as they learned about traditions some people in our community celebrate.
A: “It’s got eggs. Sparkly eggs and chickens.”

Robert Burns’ Day – 25/01/22
The children have been celebrating Robert Burns’ Day in the centre. This gave them the opportunity to learn some Scottish poetry. Click on the link below to hear a recital of a poem. (LIT0-01a)
We also celebrated by participating in Scottish Ceilidh. We used our counting skills to dance the Eightsome Reel where the children walked in a circle one way counting to 8, repeated the count the other way, walked in for 4 and back for 4. (EXA0-08a) (EXA0-10a) (HWB0-25a)
The children also dressed up in tartan and in blue. look how good they looked in their Scottish outfits. Some groups of children took this even further by making their own tartan with paper. (EXA0-05a)
The day was further celebrated by reading Scottish based stories such as ‘Hairy McLarey from Donaldson’s Dairy’ or children’s classics translated into Scots. (LIT0-01a)
Paint Rollers – 12/03/21
Today the children have been using their big motor skills to paint and mark make. One child repeated the word ‘house!’ as he used the roller, showing a connection he has made between the activity and something he recognises from home. This activity can be repeated at home outside using water, instead of paint, on pavement, fences or walls.
Painting in the 2 Year Old Room – 24/02/21
The children in the 2 year old room have been exploring different ways to use paint. They have been experimenting with the different textures of tin foil and bubble wrap to paint on to and have been using cars and rolling pins to paint and print with.
The Story So Far… ✏📖
During the first half of the 20-21 academic year we have been looking at how we could increase creativity in the outdoors area. This is an ongoing process with some areas of development still being underway.
Outdoor Mark Making
We have created a mark making resource trolly filled with traditional mark making materials including pencils, biro pens, felt tip pens, notepads, glue etc. Moving forward we will be looking to gather untraditional mark making materials.
Loose Parts Play
We have also established a loose parts play area to promote open ended resources. Children can use these materials in any way. So far we observed children making patterns with objects, creating transient art, building and engaging in the exploration of their senses.

Loose parts we have used so far are: bottle lids, shells, dolly pegs, small stones, feathers and reels of twine.
