What is play?
Play is how our children and young people learn. Through experiencing, exploring, investigating, problem-solving, children develop skills, knowledge and expand on their abilities through play.
When your child is engaged in an activity of their own interest, they are more likely to absorb new information, deepen or expand on their current skills or want to participate in the experience because it is fun.
Education Scotland have a Parent Zone full of useful information and links for parents/carers and families. There is a section on “Learning through play”
Free Play
In the Early Childhood Centre, the children have the opportunity for free-play. This is where the learning environment has a variety of different resources, experiences and activities for the children to choose themselves what they want to explore and take part in. There are many different learning opportunities through this.
We often share the different play and learning experiences the children have been taking part in, please feel free to explore our playroom tabs to see what your child may have been doing when in the centre.
Every day learning opportunities through play
There are so many opportunities in every day tasks for children to learn and develop their skills. There is a useful resource on Education Scotland that supports and highlights these within the home environment to support children’s Literacy, Numeracy and Health and Wellbeing.
