For your information

The Statutory Consultation on Early Learning and Childcare in East Ayrshire Council is now open

Education authorities have a statutory duty under the Children and Young People (Scotland) Act 2014 to consult with a representative group of parents and carers with children under school age in their area about how they should make early learning and childcare available.

We have created two surveys for parents, carers and prospective parents and carers residing in East Ayrshire in order to hear their views on early learning and childcare in our authority. The surveys will be open for 3 weeks from the 31st May.

The views of parents and carers are important to us and will be used to inform the future delivery of early learning and childcare in East Ayrshire Council so please take 5 minutes to complete this survey if you are a parent or carer of a child or children currently accessing funded early learning and childcare: https://www.smartsurvey.co.uk/s/1C7NKT/

Or, if you are a parent or carer of a baby or young child or a prospective parent or carer not yet accessing early learning and childcare please take two minutes to share your views with us using this link: https://www.smartsurvey.co.uk/s/SLIBOJ/

We will also be seeking the views of children as part of the Statutory Consultation.

If you would like more information about the Statutory Consultation please contact EarlyYears-Admin@east-ayrshire.gov.uk.

Your support with this important exercise is much appreciated.

June Top Tip

When your child says the wrong sound don’t put pressure on them.

A child’s speech sound development is gradual and some children can develop sounds at different times to other children.

Children will tend to say or produce a speech sound when they are developmental ready – it’s not laziness when they’re not producing a particular sound ; and just because they can copy a sound or say it on its own, does not mean they’ll be able to use it in words or sentences (yet ! )  if your child is making errors in their speech eg if you say ‘tat’ instead of ‘cat’, the best thing to do is model the way of saying it in a really positive way eg That’s right a cat, really emphasising the correct sound.

Don’t correct them and try and make them repeat it after you this could affect their confidence and put them off talking.

Speech sounds continue to develop up to the age of 7.

May Top Tip

It’s all about  Blowing Bubbles everyone loves bubbles and while having fun you will be strengthening your tongue and exercising the lips to help with speech sounds.

Bubble Mix Recipe

  • 2 cups washing up liquid
  • 1tsp of cooking oil
  • 1 cup of water

Making The Mix

mix the washing up liquid with the water and add the cooking oil it makes the bubble mix stronger our if you don’t want to use bubbles you could try – cotton wool or feathers across a table small pieces of hankie in the air bubbles from the bath, using the palm of your hand, try whistling.

Strengthen abdominal muscles can increase sentence length, strengthening the tongue correctly for (K,G) and ng sounds that are produced at the back of the mouth.

Lip rounding for sounds (W, OO) and ‘O’ when your child is blowing if the shape of the lips is round, great if they are more on the flat side try squeezing their cheeks to get their lips in the right position.

Speech Sounds – When your child requests more bubbles with a sign or gesture try modelling the sound (m) more, (b) bubbles or (p)for pop.

Learning Journals

Good morning and happy Friday everyone 🙂

As you will know we have now been able to set up our Learning Journals for all children and are currently working at slowly building these up within the ECC.
As part of this we hope to have 1 post up for every child within the next fortnight. Please keep an eye out for this and bear with us while we build our confidence in using these. We will keep you up to date with what to expect from your Learning Journals as we progress.
Can we also remind those who haven’t already activated their account to do so as soon as you can and contact the ECC if you have any problems with this.
Thank you
