The Great Paper Tower Task

Today in P6/7 we worked in teams to create the tallest, free standing tower with only paper and tape. Points were up for grabs and as well as height, most creative design was also considered.
Enzo did an amazing job creating an 80com tower that used no tape, just paper joints. Ezra, Harley, Max and George won the event by creating a tower that was almost 3 metres tall and stop unsupported for over a minute!
Lots of fabulous designs and creativity, as well as problem solving!

Say no to litter!

This week P6/7 had an interesting talk about litter in our community and initiatives to keep our local area clean and beautiful and how we can help.
We designed posters to encourage people to bin their litter and then a group of pupils (Emily, Jessica, Marlene, Aanya-Lillie, Ella and Khaira) put on a mini drama about littering and why we shouldn’t do it! Super work to all, especially our budding actors! It was very enjoyable and creative! Super work!

World of Work

In P6/7 we have exploring the World of Work and thinking about the jobs we’d like when we are older. We have been researching jobs we like or think sound interesting and finding out about the meta and transferable skills they require, as well as qualifications or talents that would help in these roles.
we then created posters to show our future selves!

D.E.A.R

This morning P6/7 had a wonderful time ‘dropping everything and reading’ with Miss Ni Shuilleabhain. Every week we take part in a different reading activity including buddy reading and read with teacher! What great fun!

Pigeon Cipher

To refine our motor skills and improve our handwriting P6/7 have been decoding and creating pigeon ciphers! Different from a secret code, ciphers use symbols such as lines and dots to represent letters. We have also been learning more about ciphers and the Enigma machine through our WWII topic.

Danger Detectives P6

Today P6 had an amazing time at the Dean Park for Danger Detectives. We took part in five different workshops around the park to help us stay safe as we grow up!

We learned lots about being responsible in the countryside: picking up litter and rubbish, being aware of glass and stinging plants and also to avoid the dangerous Giant Hogweed! Yikes!

We loved the Hazard House where fire fighters helped us to spot potential fire hazards in a real living room.

We then helped solve a mystery with Ayrshire Roads Alliance setting up a ‘crime scene’ of a vehicle collision for us to decide the blame: cyclist or driver!

We spoke to local police officers about the importance of community safety, how to avoid unsafe situations and what we should do if we find ourselves in an unsafe place.

Finally, we learned about how to stay safe near water and the dangers of swimming in rivers and streams – float like a star if you find yourself in trouble!

We had a walk around the Dean Park too, seeing deer, the castle courtyard and having a play at the park! A super day!

Today Enid and Chloe visited us from Coalfields Regeneration Trust. They were interested in how we thought our local community could be improved and the services that would benefit us. We had lots of amazing ideas, from golf courses and swimming pools to making better use of some of the buildings in the main street. We also said that we would like it if our streets were free of litter and dog mess. We’d also like more play grounds, less graffiti and a McDonalds!

A really interesting opportunity to have our voices heard and to contribute to our Local Place Plan. We also discussed and evaluated our town on how good it is just now, and where we would like to see improvements in the future.
