Today Enid and Chloe visited us from Coalfields Regeneration Trust. They were interested in how we thought our local community could be improved and the services that would benefit us. We had lots of amazing ideas, from golf courses and swimming pools to making better use of some of the buildings in the main street. We also said that we would like it if our streets were free of litter and dog mess. We’d also like more play grounds, less graffiti and a McDonalds!

A really interesting opportunity to have our voices heard and to contribute to our Local Place Plan. We also discussed and evaluated our town on how good it is just now, and where we would like to see improvements in the future.

Barony A-Frame

Thius

This week we have been learning about the history, function and current developments at the Barony A-Frame. We wrote information reports about what we found out and on Friday we used art straws, pasta and marshmallows to create our own models of the A-frame. We drew designs and used our meta-skills including, communication, collaboration, creativity, sense-making and critical thinking to come up with design solutions so that our models looked like the A-frame and were also sturdy enough to stand up.

1-point perspective art

This week P6/7 have been learning more about making art with 1-point of perspective. We know how to create art that has a foreground, midground and background. This week we drew cityscapes with 1-point of perspective disappearing towards a vanishing point to create sophisticated artworks with depth and interest. Great work P6/7!

Hokusai and Haiku

In P6/7 we have been exploring the work of artists inspired by nature, last week we looked at the wokr of Japanese print maker, Hokusai. We learned about his most famous print, The Great Wave off Kanagawa. Inspired we created our own versions and wrote Haiku poems about the stormy sea.
We then inputted our Haikus into an AI image generator to test the effectiveness of our writing. We did a great job! Well done P6/7!

National Gallery Live Art Lesson

Today we participated in a live art lesson facilitated by the National Gallery. We learned about the work of sculptor Eduard Paolozzi and then created our own cardboard sculptures which had to be held together with paper joins and seams… no glue or tape allowed!
