We are happy to announce that our bid to the Scottish Government School Library Improvement Fund was successful and we will start work on our Scots Stories project in January!

Scots Stories will see four East Ayrshire secondary schools working with S1/2 pupils to produce picture books with a Scottish theme and/or written in Scots.

First, each school will have a workshop with a professional storyteller to explore stories, including traditional Scottish tales and how they are told. Pupils will work in small groups to come up with an idea for their picture book.

Then, pupils will work with a Scottish author to develop their idea and write the text for their stories. They’ll get help to include Scots in their writing.

Once we have our text, an illustrator will help pupils to create drawings to go along with their story.

When it’s complete, we will get a volume of stories printed for each school. Pupils will also create a digital resource including audio of their story being read aloud. We will share this with our feeder primary schools and with families in our school communities.
