National Supports for Staff
Place2be are offering fully funded group supervision sessions for staff working in schools as part of their Place2think programme, which is supported by Education Scotland. Guided by Place2Be clinicians, groups of 6-8 peers meet monthly to share experiences of mental health in the school community. These sessions offer a chance to download and recharge in a safe environment, giving renewed energy for the challenges of your role.
You will have the opportunity to learn about mental health, build your network and make space to support your mental health, and that of your school, during this exceptionally challenging time.
The programme helps with:
- Supporting anxiety
- Issues in the playground or classroom
- Building resilient relationships with children and young people
- Reflecting on our emotional responses to children and young people
- Practising self-care, managing stress
- Devising a whole-school approach to mental health
This website provides fantastic guidance for senior leaders in schools to use when supporting staff wellbeing as well as resources and links to support for staff to use themselves.
Children and Young People’s Mental health and Wellbeing
The Mental Health Foundation Scotland, Digital Bricks Learning and Children’s Health Scotland have created a Professional Learning Resource for Scottish Government in Mental Health and Wellbeing. It has been designed for all staff working in schools across Scotland. It is open access and available to anyone who may find it of benefit.
The resource takes a whole school approach centred around prevention and early intervention to promote positive mental health and wellbeing for everyone in the school community. It aims to provide school staff with knowledge and understanding of mental health and wellbeing in schools and a range of opportunities to learn about experiences and advice from practitioners and young people.
There are four main sections split into bitesize topics:
Schools in Mind is a free network for education professionals which shares practical, academic and clinical expertise about mental health and wellbeing in schools and FE colleges.
The network aims to translate research into practice by providing evidence-based, accessible information and resources that can be used to embed good mental health across the whole school community.
There are fantastic resources for supporting your own and your staff’s mental health and wellbeing available on Turas. These include a personal wellbeing plan, resources to help you cope with stress, MAP planner and tips on how to cope with change to our lives during Covid 19.
