Primary 7 Newsletter and update

Hi everyone,

It’s been a busy few weeks in primary 7! Please find our class newsletter for term 2 attached as well as some information about our learning over the last few weeks.

Term 2 overview P7

Our topic learning

Over the last few weeks we have taken on an exciting topic which has linked our numeracy, STEM and Health learning.  We have been planning a pizza party. What we thought was an easy task has proven to have many more problems to solve than we originally thought!

In order to enhance our STEM skills we have focused on computational language and thinking which is the process of using ‘computer language’ in real life situations. We have researched, trouble shooted, adapted, amended, reviewed and much more during the process!

Firstly, we researched Italy to learn more about the origins of the pizza and other yummy foods! Some groups looked at geography, history and the Italian lifestyle.

We then agreed that it would be fun to plan a pizza party and began making plans. We created tables on Microsoft Word to organise the tasks that needed to be completed. We gathered data on Microsoft word bar graphs to determine what the most popular pizza toppings were within our class.

We then entered our own individual preferences on an excel spreadsheet and learned the calculation formula to find the total (SUM) people who voted for each option. We managed to do this live in class where each pupil edited a spreadsheet on their Chromebook which instantly displayed on the class Promethean board. Miss McCulloch was much more impressed than us!

Once we had the required data, we costed the party using another spreadsheet which told us how much of each ingredient we needed to buy in order to have enough for everyone. This one was particularly tricky.

Finally, we organised our seating plan and prepared for the day of the party. Believe it or not, the seating plan was the most challenging problem to solve as we had to ensure everyone sat with a friend of their choice!

This has been a great topic and we look forward to enjoying our party!

In other areas we have been planning drama performances for the infant classes which we hope to film and screen for them in December. Next week we will each write a script for a scene and come together as a group to rehearse.

We have been learning about Substance Misuse and internet safety in health. Miss McMonagle is leading creative dance and Miss McCulloch will lead social dancing in the coming weeks…wish me luck!

We also had our first S1 transition call on Teams with Mrs Ward who will be the S1 year head and all the other primary 7 classes. We have another planned for December where we will have a Q&A with some S6 buddies!

Please feel free to comment on posts as the pupils will see your feedback.

Thanks

Miss McCulloch

Term 1 round up

Each pupil has written a term 1 round up which has been posted on their secure blog. As these are private, I am unable to share their posts on here. Please ask your child to show you their term 1 round up post.

Keep an eye out in the coming weeks for our term 2 newsletter with input from the pupils!
