Our Awesome day at Dumfries House

I am very proud of all Primary 6 pupils who took part in the climbing wall and den building challenges. My goodness they all pushed themselves to the limit to climb as high as they could. Many pupils overcoming their fear of heights and beating their previous climb height. Strong legs and arms with only a few knees knocking along the way (or maybe that was just mine). I was absolutely delighted with the support and words of encouragement that the pupils gave each other on the day. A wonderful team effort! Thanks for a great day everyone!

Pupil Comments about the importance of Play!

Primary 6 pupils enjoyed their day of non interrupted play. They played with their peers not only in the classroom but outdoors using the loose parts materials In the playground, with the wee ones in the nursery and with primary 1 pupils.  A day to interact with other children whilst having fun and learning how to communicate effectively, solve problems,  read social situations, encouraging and supporting each other and building friendships. Thanks to everyone who brought in toys and games!

When the children were asked about their play day this is what they had to say….

“I felt really happy because I got to communicate with people more freely”  Jenna Newlands

“I felt excited for play day because I didn’t have to worry about right or wrong answers in my work”  Riley McGowan

“I felt happy because I got to play with my friends”  Charlotte Millar

“I was quite relaxed and never had to worry about my work”  Lainie McMaster

“I felt enthusiastic about it and got to play with people I don’t usually play with”  Freya Slaven

“Initially it took me a while to start playing games with other people but then I really enjoyed playing Cabo with Cameron”  Liam Murphy

Global School Play Day Wed 6th Feb

https://www.globalschoolplayday.com

To encourage unstructured play pupils are asked to bring in any games and toys they wish to play with this Wednesday 6th February. No devices allowed such as iPads or tablets or expensive toys.  This will be a day of non interrupted fun as the children play, socialise and communicate with their peers both in class and out in the playground.  I can’t wait to join in with my Primary 6’s and have my bag of games packed already!

Budding Authors in P6

Primary 6 pupils spent the month of December planning and writing short festive stories for Primary 1. They worked extremely hard to create main characters, an interesting plot and the all important moral of the story to stimulate thought and discussion with the wee ones. They planned using story boards and made bright, colourful books along with puppets. The Primary ones absolutely loved them and enjoyed listening to their stories! Well done P6!
