Leaders of Learning
P7 children have been taking their senior roles within the school very seriously. They have been supporting P1 children as buddies, to help them to be happy and have fun at school. Our younger pupils have really appreciated having their buddies to rely upon in the playground and to help them make friends, join in games and sort any worries or issues our P1s might have. They have also enjoyed being Leaders of Learning for our P1/2 class. Our P6 children have also been supporting P2s in these Learning sessions. The P7s have been planning and organising fun activities which they set up in the playground or the play room on Fridays. As you can see our senior pupils have just as much fun as their buddies.
Place value and addition
This week we have continued to work on place value, ordering and sequencing up to 8 digit numbers. We have used our place value strips and digit cards to understand what happens in large numbers when adding on 10s, 100s and 1000s.
Food Celebrations
Here are some of the pictures from our celebration of food. The children organised everything from setting up the tables, to welcoming and serving their guests and writing the speeches. We all had a great time.
Grow together, Cook together
P7 children have had a fabulous journey working alongside Dumfries House staff. They have been involved in planning the school garden, planting and caring for the crops, harvesting the fruits and vegetables and then cooking for their celebration of food afternoon with their parents.
Numeracy
P6/7 have been exploring place value in numbers up to 8 digits… and beyond! They have been working together, challenging each other to create the biggest number from sets of chosen digits and to compare numbers using the comparative symbols for less than, greater than and equal to. The children have enjoyed working through a variety of activities, making this learning more active, fun and much more meaningful. The activity they have been particularly keen to engage with is our Place value team challenges which has children going head to head to identify the values in given digits within large numbers. Our next steps in numeracy will be looking at decimals and working on estimating, rounding and ordering.
Class charter
In P6/7 we looked at the articles which lays out our rights and we identified those relevant to our classroom and our learning. We based our class charter around these rights. We enjoyed working in teams to agree our charter statements.
We have signed a contract with our promise to protect learning for all.
Welcome
Welcome to our P6/7 class blog.
It has been a pleasure getting to know you all over the past couple of days.
Our PE days are on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Please come to school with a full PE kit which consists of shorts, leggings or joggers, trainers or gym shoes and a t-shirt. No football strips please. Also, jewellery should be removed before coming to school on these days.
Over the past 2 days we have been involved in listening and talking activities and using thinking and decision making skills. We have been working together to design our learning environment and drawing up interior design plans. Please see the photos below.
Our buddy system is up and running and has been going well. We have also been preparing for our first “Leaders of Learning” session which will take place tomorrow with our P1/2 class.
