Session 4 began with a timeline from the Stone Age up to the present day. As this time line was to scale it helped us to realise that although we think of the Romans and the Egyptians as ancient civilisations they are more recent than we think in the whole scheme of things.
In this session, we cleaned up all the evidence found in our dig.

Here’s what we found!

Now it was back to the stem room to categorise and log our findings.

In our 3rd session with Archaology Scotland we carried out an excavation of our playing field.

Here are the findings from the 3 digs:

We had our 2nd session with Archaology Scotland this afternoon. We explored the old cemetry at the bottom of the village. We discovered head stones from the 1700’s and recorded all the evidence they gave us.

We also got in touch with some of the wildlife. Here we have evidence that our very rare ladybirds are still in Ochiltree.

Harris also made a little friend!

This enterprising duo have been busking in the village to raise funds for our 50th Celebrations. Tommy Reid (P6) and Lauchlan Morrison (P7) raises £11.80. The boys have only been playing for a short time but have wowed our whole school in a special get together to celebrate their achievement.
Congratulation boys. We look forward to hearing more from you in the future!
Last week we were beginning our work on fractions, understanding the language of fractions, comparing fractions and making links between decimals and percentages:

We had the pleasure of an interactive workshop with Calum from the Bernadetti Foundation. The children enjoyed the session and were all engaged throughout. Here are some of our leaders:

Happy Mother’s day to all you lovely Mums. Your children worked hard to create cards indpired by Rennie MacIntosh’s rose design. They also wrote poems in their chosen style. Here is a wee selection:

As we move from multiplying and dividing into fractions of quantities we explored the language around fractions and what the numbers actually mean. Then we explored numbers using the dividing by 2 to find half of an amount then took this further to find quarter of an amount by using the half then half again strategy.

The whole school took part in a World Book Day Parade, followed by a Character bingo organised by our Rocket Readers leadership group with Mrs Meek.
We ended the day with a shared reading session with P3/4 children.
