Weekly Update

This week we were learning about finances, budgeting and paying for things using higher purchase.

We typed up our stories and highlighted our similes and alliteration in yellow, conjunctions in green and sentence openers in blue.

We were practising our spelling words and reading some more of our book. We were answering questions based on the text.

We also started to practise and revise our knowledge of the different chess pieces ahead of our chess tournament next term.

In PE we finished our badminton block and had a little tournament Ashton and Ryan won on Tuesday, and Josh and Declan won on Wednesday.

We were also learning how to find different countries on the map and look at the countries they share a border with.

Weekly Round-up

This week we had our whole school literacy groups again and we were learning about inference.

We wrote the next part of our narrative stories and some people began to type theirs up.

We completed a maths assessment on Wednesday and we have been practising our division facts.

In PE we were playing mini badminton games and practised shooting in basketball.

Yesterday we did art and we looked at different patterns and colours in various pieces of artwork. We also got to use the blocks and one group created their own bowling game.

Weekly Round-up

This week we have been continuing to consolidate our knowledge of division and are becoming more confident tackling these types of calculations more independently.

On Monday we were using our research skills to gather information on the Battle of Bannockburn, and use these to create a PowerPoint. We also started to learn about forces in science and we created our own parachutes.

We had Home Circles on Wednesday and were discussing what inclusion at Catrine Primary looks like.

We also started to play mini badminton games during our PE lessons.

We were also learning how to make a ping pong game using Scratch in ICT.

This week we were doing division with reminders and some people were doing reminders with decimals.

We were reading ‘Divided City’ in literacy and it is our homophone week. In writing we wrote our introductions to our narrative story.

In health and wellbeing learning about different substances and the effects that alcohol has on a person.

In art we were learning about product design and looked at some of the work produced by Gillian Kyle. We then created our own Scottish art work in the style of Gillian Kyle.

In PE we continued to work on our Badminton skills and are able to serve and return. We are looking forward to having some small tournament games.

Weekly Round-up

On Wednesday the whole school went to the hall for another literacy morning. We paired up in our classes again and worked on the literacy strategy of visualisation which means drawing a picture of the information discovered in the book. The book was called “The BFG”.

On Wednesday afternoon we had Committee Groups where each Group focused on their different priorities.

Mr McGurn from the RBA spoke to the primary 7 pupils as part of their transition programme into S1.

Weekly Round-up

In numeracy we focused on our division work, we were also doing some money maths with Mrs Govans and had to make sure we lined up our decimal points in our calculations.

We started a new book called “Divided City” and we did some work on the book. We also started our story time at Wednesday assembly and were learning about wars that took place in the past in Scotland.

In R.E we were learning about Judaism and different religions.

In PE we started doing some badminton and racket techniques.

In ICT we were making spreadsheets in Excel.

Scots Verse Competition

All pupils have been given a Scots poem to learn for the Scots Verse Celebration.

P6 pupils will be learning ‘Up in the Morning Early’ by Robert Burns.

P7 pupils will be learning ‘Mrs Nae Offence’ by Gregor Steele

Pupils should practise their poems at home and should be ready to perform their poem by Wednesday 24th January. Pupils are able to use hand gestures and props for their poem.

5 pupils from each stage will be selected to perform in front of the judges and the winner will perform at our Scots Verse Celebration.

Merry Christmas

We’ve had a busy few weeks participating in lots of Christmas activities. We’ve enjoyed a fabulous Christmas lunch, a trip to the cinema and the P1-3 Nativity.

On Tuesday we had our P6/7 Christmas Party and spent the afternoon singing, dancing and playing lots of fun games.

We hope you have a lovely Christmas and New Year and look forward to seeing everyone in 2024.

Weekly Round-up

This week we finished our book study ‘Holes’. Then we watched the movie so that we could compare the story and pick out any differences.

We were extremely busy creating lots of crafts for our Christmas Fayre and thank everyone who came and bought some of our wonderful creations.

In maths we have been learning to calculate the area of a shape and revising the grid method in multiplication.

In French we were learning the days of the week and the months of the year.

Today we were learning to use Scratch in ICT to animate our names.

Next week we are looking forward to our party on Tuesday and a whole school trip to the Odeon on Thursday.

 

 

Weekly Round up

On Monday some of our class went to Sportshall Athletics and had a very high score. We scored 1506 points. On Tuesday we were learning the Gay Gordons for our Christmas party.

In maths we have been learning division & how to calculate the area of a rectangle. We have been making crafts for the Christmas Fayre.

Last night we had a Christmas disco and the P7s sold glow sticks for their leavers hoodies.
