Weekly Update

It’s been an extremely busy week in P6. This week we continued to work on and develop our badminton skills in PE.

On Tuesday we participated in a Climate Ready Classrooms conference aimed at P6 pupils, with Make Scotland Beautiful and some other P6 classes. We took part in different workshops about climate change, biodiversity and the importance of taking action.

On Wednesday we had a fantastic day at The Science Centre and had great fun learning and exploring. Take a look at some of the things we got up to on our visit.

Weekly Round-up

This week we have been learning about the rules of badminton and have been trying hard to improve our aim. We also had another leadership session with Barry, where we planned and organised our own sports event to run with the ECC and younger pupils.

In numeracy we have been learning about fractions and the importance of equal parts.

As part of our Scotland topic, we have been researching Famous Scots and this week we took it in turns to teach the rest of the class about the individual that we have been researching.

Weekly Round-up

It’s been a very busy week in P6 this week. On Monday we had a joint PE session with P7 where we participated in different track and field events.

On Tuesday we had our second leadership session with Barry, we were learning about skill based circuits and everyone got a turn of leading the activities and were able to adapt their station as needed and provide feedback to those in their group. On Tuesday afternoon we had our first visit to the ECC to meet some of the new pupils who will be joining us in P1 next year, and now we can’t wait to find out who our buddy will be.

On Wednesday we joined up with P7 to listen to everyone’s poems and the finalists were selected to go to the judges. We then created some Scottish themed prints in the style of Pop Art and finished off our afternoon with our next Discovery Den.

On Thursday we wrote the next part of our narrative stories. We have also been exploring data handling in maths and in science we were learning about producers, consumers and decomposers. We then sorted the pictures into the correct categories.

Some of our class were at the RBA competing at the Sportshall Athletics, they did a great job of representing our school.

Weekly Update

We’ve had a busy week in P6. We started our Leadership sessions with Barry, where we were learning to lead PE sessions. We discussed important facts such as communication, providing demonstrations and how to adapt games to suit everyone.

We started our new book study Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, and completed a prior knowledge and summarising task. We were also learning about homophones in spelling. We have been continuing to practise our division skills in numeracy and were completing calculations with remainders.

After looking at some Charles Rennie Mackintosh artwork we designed and created our own prints.

First Week Back

This week we have been learning about division. We have been discussing grouping and sharing, and have been exploring remainders.

We were learning about prefixes in spelling and this week we started looking at narrative stories, before beginning to plan our own story.

In PE we were practising for Sportshall Athletics. Next week we will be starting our Leadership sessions with Barry, therefore pupils will need their PE kit on Mondays and Tuesdays.

As part of our Scotland topic, we will be exploring Famous Scots. This week we were discussing the different Famous Scots that we already know. We were learning about Charles Rennie Mackintosh and practised creating our own Charles Rennie Mackintosh themed drawings as part of our printing focus in art.

Merry Christmas

We’ve had an excellent last week of term in P6. This week we joined our ECC friends at the square for some Carol singing, we had our Christmas Service and P1-3 Nativity, played lots of games and sang our hearts out at our fabulous Christmas party and finished the week with a brilliant trip to the pantomime.

Have a lovely Christmas and we look forward to seeing everyone back in January 2026.

Weekly Update

This week we finished reading Holes, we then got to watch the movie and it has definitely been a firm favourite for most. We also completed a book review, giving our opinions on our favourite and least favourite characters and parts.

We have been continuing to work on calculating the area of squares and rectangles in maths, and we completed our own Piet Mondrian area art.

We were also extremely busy elves finishing off all of our Christmas crafts for the Fayre, and we were delighted to see so many people come along to buy some of our amazing crafts.

We joined up with P5 & we were practising chess. Some of our class helped those who didn’t feel as confident and needed a little help remembering the different moves each piece could make.

Weekly Round-up

This week we had our last week of swimming and after our lesson we got to have a fun swim, where we got lots of floats and noodles to play with. We also went a walk down by the river and around the Barony Campus.

In literacy we were learning to write a summary for the chapters we read in Holes. In writing we wrote a non-chronological report based on an animal, and we have been continuing to work on our joins when doing our handwriting.

In numeracy we were learning to multiply by multiples of 10 and 100. We have also been practising our Number Talks.

We have been learning to take on the role of someone we aren’t in drama. We have to try and stay in character and answer questions based on what we think the people we are pretending to be would say.

We used the K’nex to build different vehicles or modes of transport, we had a helicopter, plane, bike, car, train and a glider. We worked hard in our groups, we had to have good communication, work well as a team to help each other, we had to problem solve when our ideas didn’t always work and we had to adapt and change our plans based on this.

We have been busy working on  our crafts and items to sell at the Christmas Fayre and we can’t wait for you to see them next week.

Weekly Round-up

It has been a super busy week in P6.

It was Big Talk presentation week and we have loved listening to everyone’s presentations, and it’s been brilliant getting to know a bit more about everyone in our class. We have also been working on giving feedback to each other using tickled pink and green for growth based on the assessment criteria.

We had Home Circles on Tuesday, followed by our trip to Cumnock for our 5th swimming lesson. We have also been busy working on our sewing skills and creating our crafts for the Christmas Fayre.

We loved having our friends and family visit for our literacy open morning on Thursday.

Following on from Scotland qualifying for The World Cup 2026, we got the opportunity to take on different roles in drama. Some people took on the role of the Scotland manager, whilst others took on the role of the journalists and players. We even set up our own “press table” and worked hard to remain in character throughout.

Weekly Round-up

We’ve had another busy week in P6. This week we have been practising the different races for the Sportshall Athletics. We have worked in teams to compete in different relay races too.

We have finished our 4th week of swimming lessons and it’s great to see the progress that everyone is making.

This week we continued to work on our report writing skills and used the information collected from our research to complete our first reports. We were learning about the importance of headings and sub-headings to organise our information.

We have been learning about different modes of transport and have been looking at how these have changed over the years. We went on a virtual tour of the Riverside Museum and learned all about the different modes of transport, from the Penny Farthing, to steam trains, trams and the first gliders ever to be built and remain in the air for almost a minute.
