This week in P4 we have been working on subtracting with exchanging in numeracy. In literacy we have been continuing to use conjunctions to link sentences and in French we have been working on creating dialogues using French vocabulary.

It was so nice to welcome families into the classroom for our Numeracy Open Morning on Wednesday. Thank you to those of you that managed to make it along, We hope you enjoyed getting the chance to see the learning taking place in Primary 4.

We have been learning about why we celebrate Bonfire Night and creating some fireworks artwork using oil pastels.

P4 Class Talk Homework Project

Title: ‘Where I live’ or ‘My Hobbies’

Pupils have been given a project to prepare and give a short talk about where they live or their hobbies. Some ideas they could include in their talk are:

• where they live, what kind of house or flat they live in, who they live with, what they like about where they live and what they would like to improve about their local area.
• what hobbies they have, what they enjoy about their hobbies, clubs or teams that they are part of, where they do their hobbies, any special skills they have learned and anything they have achieved that they are proud of.

Pupils can decide how they would like to present their talk i.e. poster, PowerPoint presentation, photographs, bringing in items from home etc.

Children should practise their talk at home to be able to talk fluently to the class, they might want to use notes on paper to help them remember their talk.

Talks should be ready to be heard for Monday 16^th November. Further details will be posted on the class blog as to which day pupils will be presenting their talk.

It has been a busy week in Primary 4!

In literacy we have been working on improving our spelling and learning to use conjunctions to link sentences in our writing. We have been adding and subtracting in numeracy and learning different words for greetings in French.

We had lots of fun playing charades in drama.

We have also been learning about medicines in Health and Well-being , the story of Rama and Sita in R.M.E and started our Materials topic in Science.

We had lots of fun celebrating Halloween today.

We dressed up, watched a Halloween movie, danced, dooked for apples and played some party games. It was great fun!

Primary 4 have had a great first week of term and have been working so hard!

In numeracy we have been learning to add 2 and 3 digit numbers with carrying.

We have been working so hard on using punctuation in our writing that we are ready to move on to a new learning target next week.

We visited the school library to choose a new book to read.

We have been creating some lovely artwork and decorated the classroom for Halloween.

We have been continuing to practise our hockey skills in P.E.

Congratulations to Gracie who won two trophies at a recent dancing competition. She achieved 1st place for slow and 3rd place for fast, well done Gracie!

It’s hard to believe that it’s the end of term 1 already!

Scotland were playing Slovenia on Tuesday night and we were allowed to wear our Scotland tops to school to show support for the team.

In Science we have been learning about the relationship between the Earth, Sun and Moon.

We have been using the internet to find out lots of facts about France.

We had our Harvest Service and Hush In on Wednesday. We did so well to stay quiet for 45 minutes!

We created some lovely artwork for the chemist.

We got to practise our hockey skills and play some games in P.E.

We ended the week with a movie and some ‘free choice’ time as a treat for working so hard this term.

This week in P4 we have been learning to add with carrying in maths. In literacy we have been writing about Autumn. We also visited the school library and got to choose a book that we can read at home or in class.

We learned about the story of The Good Samaritan in RME and have been continuing to play the glockenspiel in Music.

We have been learning about the different states of water in Science. We carried out some experiments to show how water can be a solid, a liquid or a gas.

We have been learning to draw a pumpkin fox in art.

We have been practising dribbling, passing and shooting in hockey.

We celebrated Mrs Watt achieving 25 years of working at Catrine Primary.

We completed a scavenger hunt in groups as part of our outdoor learning.

We have been listening, singing and dancing to songs as well as playing the glockenspiel in Music.

We have been using Google Maps to find different places in the world in ICT.

We have been continuing to practise our hockey dribbling and passing skills in P.E.

After a very busy start to term 1 we have made it to the September weekend!

This week in Primary 4 we have been learning to use an atlas when completing our Morning Challenge. In numeracy, we have been reading and writing numbers in words and continuing to practise times tables in numeracy.

In literacy we have been learning all about the author Roald Dahl who wrote ‘The Twits’, which is our whole class book study this term. We created Roald Dahl posters with the facts that we researched and designed our own book covers for ‘The Twits’.

We have been talking about things that make us happy in Health and Wellbeing and finding out about the world’s oceans and continents in Science.

We have been practising our skipping skills in P.E. with Mrs Cook.

Emily was awarded a Blue Card at the Football Fun Factory this week for scoring an excellent goal. Well done, Emily!

It has been another busy week of learning in P4!

This week we have been learning to round numbers to the nearest 10 and 100 in numeracy.

In literacy we have been revising the ‘oi’ sound in spelling and  continuing to work on accurately punctuating sentences in our writing. We have been learning to use the reading strategy ‘metalinguistics’ and have been working out the meaning of new words.

We have been learning about the layers of the Earth in Science and have been learning about symbols of world religions in RME. We have been talking about feelings and emotions and created out own ‘Emotions Wheels’ in Health and Wellbeing. We have also been learning how to dribble the ball in hockey.

This week in Primary 4 we have been continuing to work on place value, rounding numbers to the nearest 10 and ‘Multiplication Masters’ in numeracy.

We have been revising the ‘oa’ sound in spelling and have been continuing to work on accurately punctuating sentences in our writing. We have been learning to use the reading strategy ‘visualisation’ and created a visualisation of Mr and Mrs Twit.

We have been skipping with Mrs Cook and learning to control a hockey stick and ball with Mrs McKenna in P.E.

We created some beautiful ‘I am . . .’ artwork which is on display in the corridor. We used watercolours to paint the background and then wrote positive adjectives to describe ourselves.

We have also been practising counting to 20 in French, have been creating digital collages in technologies and had our first Home Circles this week.

Gracie was a finalist in the ‘Born For This’ dance championship at the weekend and brought her award into school to show the class. Congratulations Gracie!
