Homework Week 1

P4 Class Talk Homework Project

Title: Where I live

Pupils have been given a project to prepare and give a short talk about where they live. Some ideas they could include in their talk are: where they live, what kind of house or flat they live in, who they live with, what they like about where they live and what they would like to improve about their local area.

Pupils can decide how they would like to present their talk i.e. poster, PowerPoint presentation, photographs, bringing in items from home etc.

Children should practise their talk at home in order to be able to talk fluently to the class, they might want to use notes on paper to help them remember their talk.

Talks should be ready to be heard for Monday 17th November. Further details will be posted on the class blog as to which day pupils will be presenting their talk.

If you have any questions please email me at: laura.mckenna@eastayrshire.org.uk

I look forward to hearing your talks.

First Week of Term 2

Primary 4 have had a great first week of term and have been working so hard!

In numeracy we have been learning to add 3 digit numbers with carrying. We have also been learning to identify the faces, edges and vertices of 3D shapes. We have started to learn about conjunctions in literacy and have been using conjunctions to link sentences in our writing. We have also been learning about the Hindu festival Diwali and creating some lovely Autumn artwork.

Last Week of Term 1

It’s hard to believe that it’s the end of term 1 already!

This week we went for a lovely class walk to the monument, looking for signs of Autumn on the way. We spotted mushrooms, acorns and lots of different coloured leaves.

We have been learning to carry when adding in numeracy this week. We have been working so hard on using punctuation in our writing that we are ready to move on to a new learning target after the holidays. We have also been learning about the different states of water in Science.

We ended the week with a ‘free choice’ afternoon as a treat for working so hard this term.

Have a great October holiday!

Weekly Round-Up

On Monday, Primary 4 had a great day with Mr Clark. He commented on how helpful and welcoming the pupils were, which was lovely to hear.

This week we have been finishing off our work on rounding in maths and have been continuing to work on learning our times tables. Nadia has been working so hard and has managed to complete her times table passport this week. Well done Nadia!

We have all been working so hard to meet our learning targets in writing.

We have been continuing to practise our numbers in French and had fun playing the game ‘lotto’. We have also been learning to recognise, pronounce and spell the letters of the alphabet in French.

We have been learning about instrument families in an orchestra in Music. Alfie and Sophie in P7 have been learning to play the trombone and came into our class to perform for us. They were fantastic!

It’s hard to believe that next week is the last week of term 1!

This week in P4

This week in Primary 4 we have been learning to round 2 and 3 digit numbers to the nearest 10 in numeracy and creating some super pieces of writing in literacy. We have been learning to ask how people are feeling in French and developing an understanding of the musical instruments in an orchestra in Music. In Science we have been learning about renewable and non-renewable energy.

On Monday Primary 4 will have a supply teacher, Mr Clark. The class will have P.E. on Monday afternoon so must have their P.E. kit in order to take part.

Weekly Round-Up

It has been a busy week of learning in Primary 4! We have been finishing off our learning on place value and whole numbers in maths. In literacy we have been free writing and we have also been learning about different world religions in RME.

It was so nice to welcome families into the classroom for our Numeracy Open Morning on Tuesday. Thank you to those of you that managed to make it along, We hope you enjoyed getting the chance to see the learning taking place in Primary 4.

We went for a class walk to The Voes to feed the ducks this week.

Nadia was the winner of a Ruby Reward ticket today and chose Demi to sit with her at the Ruby Reward table. Well done Nadia!

Have a lovely holiday weekend!

Homework – Week 1

This term our focus for homework will be times tables. Pupils have been given an Ultimate Times Table Challenge to complete for homework this week. This will allow pupils to practise times tables that they have already been learning.

By the end of Primary 4 pupils should know the 1 to 10 times tables and be able to recall multiplication facts with speed and accuracy. This knowledge will help to support them in other aspects of maths. Lots of practise committing times tables to memory will be our focus this session.

Homework should be returned by Tuesday 23rd September.
