Weekly Round-Up

It has been another busy week of learning in Primary 4.

We have been working so hard on our writing targets in Literacy that we are ready to move onto a new target next week. We have been learning to find a half and a quarter of an amount in Numeracy and have been learning to identify organs in the human body in Science.

In art we have been learning about the Scottish artist Gillian Kyle and have been creating our own Scottish pop art pictures.

We also went a class walk to the park this week.

We are all looking forward to our trip to the Science Centre next Wednesday.

This week in P4

This week in P4 we chose our finalists for the Scots verse competition. Well done to Carson who was the P4 winner and to Alfie who was the runner up.

We went for a walk to the river on Monday afternoon and found lots of interesting stones and rocks.

We have been continuing to divide with remainders in numeracy and have been writing in Scots in literacy. In Science we have been learning to identify the location and the role of bones in the human body. We also had Discovery Den activities again this week and got to take part in lots of different activities including clay modelling, pancake making, mindfulness, fruit tasting, sports/games, music, STEM and quilling.

We have been learning lots of interesting facts about Scotland and have started our new science topic learning about the Human Body. In French we have been learning to say the months of the year and to say when our birthday is.

We went for a class walk to The Voes this week to feed the ducks.

We have also started to learn how to play chess in preparation for the Chess Championship next term.

First Week of Term 3

Happy New Year from Primary 4!

We have had a great first week back at school and even managed to get an unexpected early finish on Monday! In class we have been talking about the new year – we have been discussing and writing about our goals and resolutions.

Our topic this month is Scotland and we have been talking about what we already know about Scotland and what we would like to learn. We have started our new book study ‘The Treasure of the Loch Ness Monster’ by Lari Don and went to the library to choose a new book to read.

In numeracy we have been dividing by 2 and 3, in literacy we have been writing about our prior knowledge of the Loch Ness Monster and in art we have been creating beautiful winter pictures.

Ellie was the winner of a Ruby Reward ticket today and chose Harper to sit with her at the Ruby Reward table. Well done Ellie!

Scots Poem

As part of our Scotland topic this term all classes are learning a Scots poem. Paper copies of the poems have been given to all pupils to learn at home and are also shown below.

The Primary 4 poem is The Magic Pizza by Ali Christie which was chosen by the pupils.

THE MAGIC PIZZA

by Ali Christie

Eh’m a pizza, a magic pizza,
Bein stuck in the freezer’s a scunner –
So Eh grew twa legs an oor ago
An fae Tesco Eh did a runner.

Eh’m a pizza, a gaun-ma-dinger pizza,
Eh’m skitin doon the street,
An giein a muckle cheesy grin
Tae the dumfoonert fowk Eh meet.

Eh’m a pizza, a please-mehsel pizza,
Eh can dae whitiver Eh like –
Fleh wi cheese and tomatae wings
Or gae dancin doon a dyke.

Eh’m a pizza, an oan-the-rin pizza,
The polis are efter me –
But they needna think that ony o them
Are haein me fur thir tea.

Eh’m a pizza, a thumb-yir-neb pizza,
Eh’ll tell them tae git loast.
Oh jings – Eh’m a puggilt pizza noo –
Eh’ve stertit tae defroast!

We have discussed in  class that we will pronounce the ‘Eh’m’ as ‘Ah’m’ and ‘Eh’ as ‘Ah’ as this is how we would say these words with an Ayrshire accent!

Pupils should learn their poem and be ready to present it to the class by Wednesday 21st January . Pupils will be chosen to perform their poem in front of judges and the winners from each stage will then perform at our Scots Verse Celebration on Wednesday 28th January.
