First Week Back in January

The pupils have worked hard this week and enjoyed choosing a new seating arrangement for the class.

We have been learning to calculate change by using the ‘counting on’ method. Some learners like to do this with a blank number line, a 100 square or simply in their head. It can be quite tricky so pupils may want to practise this a little more. As a rough guide the pyramids were calculating change from £2 and with the challenge of £5; the cubes have been working with change from 50p or £1.

To help with our maths topic the pupils were tasked with creating a coffee shop in the playground area for the P1/2 to enjoy. They thoroughly enjoyed this task and really got creative with menus, specials boards and some first class serving skills!

In literacy we were looking at rhyming patterns in poetry and generating rhyme to describe the months of the year.

We finished the week with making some calendars inspired by  our poems using zentangle patterns.

Have a lovely weekend everyone!

Happy New Year!

Welcome Back

Happy new year and welcome back to Primary 3/4.

Firstly a huge thank you to all our pupils, parents and carers for our very generous and thoughtful gifts. We appreciate it very much.

We look forward to kick-starting the new term with all things Scottish in preparation for our Burns assembly at the end of January. Our poems will be posted for practise and are as follows-

P3- Bumbees by JK Anand

P4- A Dug, A Dug by Bill Keys

Here is a round up of some of our December fun in the SWAY below-

Jobs in our Community

P3/4 have been learning about jobs and services in our community. In literacy we created questions to ask our visitors to learn more about their jobs and how they use skills from school in their jobs.

We have been lucky enough to have Lynn, Margaret, Amy, Mr Fiddes, Jen and Ed in to visit us. We have learned so much about our community and the work that goes on in the village.

Ochiltree Achievers

On Friday 15th November, we held an achievement assembly to celebrate our learners. We selected four pupils from each class to receive a certificate matching to one of the four capacities of curriculum for excellence.

More information about the four capacities can be found here-

Our first certificates were awarded to Oliver, Wallace, Illy and Ellie. Well done!

We loved hearing about the children’s wider achievements too. Look out for our SWAY for more celebrations.

Week Ending 7th November

This week Primary 3/4 enjoyed a special treat of a movie with popcorn as their class reward. Each day our “secret student” earns a petal towards our target and when the flower blooms we’ve reached our reward.

In numeracy we have been learning to use the more than and less than symbols to compare numbers. In literacy we learned about onomatopoeia and made Bonfire Safety posters. We began planning for our new topic ‘jobs in our community’.

See what we’ve been up to below.
