Literacy

P2 have been working hard on their new common words this week  –  much, use,  would, could, new, who and friend.

Numeracy

Pupils continued to work on telling the time on both analogue and  digital clocks, focussing on o’clock and half past times.

Learning Across the Curriculum

It was walk to school week this week and I loved seeing everyone participating in all walk to school week activities throughout this week! Our pupils also loved meeting Jonny Paterson, a paralympic footballer, who played for Scotland! They took part in activities run by Jonny and enjoyed listening to his inspirational talk about never giving up on your dream.

Weekly Roundup – 01/05/26

Literacy

In writing P2 have been learning about persuasive writing and wrote some reasons to try and persuade an adult to take them to the park after school.  They had some great ideas, here are a few!

  • “The first reason is because I can play football and football is healthy.”
  • “I could make new friends.”
  • “I will tidy my room if you take me to the park.”

Numeracy

We have started our new maths block all about time.  P2 used songs and games to help them revise the days of the week and months of the year. The pupils have also learned to solve Number Talks problems using different strategies.

Across the Curriculum

In PE we have started to learn to play badminton.  P2 learned the name of the different parts of the racket and how to grip the racket correctly.  They also practised hitting balloons before moving on to hitting and aiming shuttlecocks.

Big Talk Homework

Twice a year, the children take part in our whole school ‘Big Talk Homework Challenge’.  This is where your child gets the opportunity to prepare and present a talk to the class.  The topic will change depending on the focus for that term.  This term the class has chosen to talk about ‘My Favourite Toy.’

Some ideas to include in their talk might be:

  • What is your favourite toy?
  • Who gave you it or where did you get it?
  • How do you play with it?
  • What do you like about it?
  • How does it make you feel when you play with it?
  • Any interesting facts about your favourite toy.

Please practise saying the talk out loud at home. Posters or slides to help the pupils with their talks are encouraged but pupils should not read from these – they should only act as prompts to aid the pupils’ talk.

The talk should be ready to be presented the week beginning Monday 11th May. More details will be given shortly (please check Blog) about which day that week your child will be giving their talk.

We look forward to hearing about their toy!

Maths Homework

P2 were given a Maths homework sheet today.  I’ve attached a link to a  copy below.

Directions

The activity will allow pupils to practise giving directions using left, right, forward, backwards, full and half turns.

Please return homework by  Monday 16th March.

Literacy

This week P2 have been learning about ‘magic e’ and how it changes the sound ‘i’ makes in words like hide, ride and bike.

They have also been learning about nouns with Miss Campbell and finding examples of common and proper nouns in books.

For writing P2 have been using ‘The Three Little Pigs‘ as inspiration to start writing their own stories.

Numeracy

In Numeracy P2 have been learning about division and using the division symbol in calculations. They used counters to help them by sharing them out into equal groups. They also used Pokémon cards to  consolidate their learning on addition.

They have  been doing more work on directions and Miss Campbell has been introducing simple co-ordinates  and compass directions to them.

Learning Across the Curriculum

In Art P2 made some fantastic McCoos.

Weekly Round-up 20/02/26

P2 have been learning about division this week and sharing objects into equal groups.  They have also been practising their times tables.

The pupils started learning about Position, Shape and Movement and have been giving and following directions.

Learning Across the Curriculum

In Technologies they have been learning about different materials. Miss Campbell has set them a challenge to design and build a car for her teddy Chester. P2 enjoyed creating and labelling their designs with the materials they will need to build their car.
