Literacy

This week P2 wrote some fantastic descriptions of fireworks.  They used lots of colours and different adjectives to describe the sounds  fireworks make and how they look.

Our phoneme this week was ‘ea’ as in sea, tea and teacher.

Numeracy

P2 have been working hard on their adding, partitioning numbers using whole-part models and then writing the number sentence they have made.  They have also been practising their 2 times table.

Learning Across the Curriculum

In science they have been learning about different organs inside their body and what they do.  They have also been learning how to say different body parts  in French.

This afternoon they discussed why poppies are a symbol of Remembrance Day and created their own pictures of poppy fields.

Big Talk Homework

Twice a year, the children take part in our whole school ‘Big Talk Homework Challenge’.  This is where your child gets the opportunity to prepare and present a talk to the class.  The topic will change depending on the focus for that term.

This term Primary 2 pupils should prepare a talk about:

“When I grow up, I would like to be…”.

Your child should prepare and practise their talk at home and can bring in a picture, drawing or poster to help them.

P2 will present their talks on the week beginning Monday 17th November.

Some ideas to include in their talk could be:

What job would they like to do when they are older?

Why would they like the job?

What skills or equipment might they need for the job?

I look forward to hearing about what they would like to be.

Halloween

P2 had a Halloween party today.  We played some party games including pass the pumpkin and enjoyed a snack in class.

Literacy

This week we have been answering different types of questions about the stories in our reading books.  P2 also wrote some wonderful descriptions of Halloween pumpkins.  We continued to focus on the ‘ay ‘phoneme.

Numeracy

We have been working on adding and estimating this week. P2 have also been practising their 2 times table.

Learning Across the Curriculum

In science we have been learning about our skeleton and how it helps us to move and protects the organs inside our body. We made some model skeleton.

Weekly Round-up 24/10/25

Literacy

This week P2 have been learning the ‘ay’ phoneme and practising their common words.  For writing, they described a haunted house and used some super adjectives in their descriptions!

Numeracy

P2 have been learning to estimate this week as well as practising  counting in 2s to help them with the 2-times table. They also finished off their odd and even street display.

Learning across the Curriculum

We finished off our topic on forces and learned that magnets have a north and south pole.  We experimented and found that two north or south poles will repel each other but a north and south pole will attract each other.  We also explored iron filings with our magnets and made some magnetic faces.

Weekly Round Up 10/10/25

P2 have been having lots of fun in science this week, exploring magnets and learning about magnetism.  They discovered that not all metals are attracted to magnets and made their autumn leaves fly using magnets. Sometimes the magnets didn’t even have to touch them to make them hover in the air!

Camembear also visited the class to help P2 learn the French words for some items of clothing.

Weekly Roundup 03/10/25

Literacy

This week P2 have been consolidating the phonemes ‘ai’, ‘oy’ and ‘oa’.  They have also been learning the tricky words here, there and were.

Numeracy

We have been looking at number patterns this week. P2 have been counting in twos and exploring odd and even numbers.

Learning Across the Curriculum

In Science P2 have been exploring magnets.  They made predictions about which objects would be attracted to the magnets and then carried out experiments to test if their predictions were correct.

In digital literacy they have been learning the correct names for different parts of a computer and laptop.

Weekly Roundup – 26/09/25

Literacy

This week P2 have been learning the ‘oa’ phoneme.  They have been practising reading and writing ‘oa’ words.

Numeracy

P2 were finishing off their work on place value this week and were partitioning numbers into 1s, 10s and 100s.

Learning Across the Curriculum

In science pupils explored objects and how they were affected by different forces acting on them.  They investigated how push, pull, twist, squash and stretch could change an object’s shape or speed.

P2 also went out for a walk around Catrine  and enjoyed some time at the play park.

Literacy

This week P2 have been learning the ‘ai’ phoneme.  They played lots of games to practise reading and writing different ‘ai’ words.

Numeracy

P2 have continued to focus on place value this week.  They have used whole part whole models and lots of concrete materials to help them understand the value of each digit in a number.

Learning Across the Curriculum

In Science P2 have been learning about forces.  They made push and pull puppets to investigate how forces like pushing and pulling can make objects move.

Weekly Roundup – 05/09/25

Its been another busy week in P2!

We have also been learning about repeating patterns and used ink stampers and other materials to create our own repeating patterns.
