P2 were given a Maths homework sheet today. I’ve attached a link to a copy below.
The activity will allow pupils to practise their adding skills and to think about the repeated adding we use when we multiply.
Please return homework by Monday 9th March.
This week P2 have been learning about ‘magic e’ and how it changes the sound ‘i’ makes in words like hide, ride and bike.
They have also been learning about nouns with Miss Campbell and finding examples of common and proper nouns in books.
For writing P2 have been using ‘The Three Little Pigs‘ as inspiration to start writing their own stories.
In Numeracy P2 have been learning about division and using the division symbol in calculations. They used counters to help them by sharing them out into equal groups. They also used Pokémon cards to consolidate their learning on addition.

They have been doing more work on directions and Miss Campbell has been introducing simple co-ordinates and compass directions to them.

In Art P2 made some fantastic McCoos.

Yesterday P2 were given a Maths homework sheet. I’ve attached a link to a copy below.
The activity involves a shape hunt around the house, the pupils can then draw or write the shapes they have found on the sheet.
Thanks to those who have already returned it.
If you need another copy just let me know.
This week P2 have been learning the ‘y’ phoneme as in try, fly and cry. They have been learning that a noun is a person, place or thing with Miss Campbell and they also wrote a blurb for the back cover of their story books.

P2 have been learning about division this week and sharing objects into equal groups. They have also been practising their times tables.
The pupils started learning about Position, Shape and Movement and have been giving and following directions.
In Technologies they have been learning about different materials. Miss Campbell has set them a challenge to design and build a car for her teddy Chester. P2 enjoyed creating and labelling their designs with the materials they will need to build their car.

P2 also put all their hockey skills to the test this week playing some games of hockey.

On Wednesday we went out for a walk, looking for shapes in our environment and enjoyed a visit to the park too.

P2 are really excited to welcome Miss Campbell to our class for the next six weeks.
This week we continued to focus on the ‘igh’ phoneme and our new common words were try, fly and why.
In writing we finished our stories. P2 are really excited to read them to P1 over the next few weeks.
We have been sharing out objects in preparation to learn about division.
Today we also learned about tessellation and made some Valentines hearts by tessellating triangles.

In French, Camembear has been helping us to learn the days of the week. We learned how to say Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday this week.
We have also been learning about family trees as a way to organise information. We have started to make Katie Morag’s family tree with all the characters we have learned about in the books.

This week P2 have been learning the ‘igh’ phoneme, as in night, light and high. Their new common words are right, can’t and don’t.
In writing they continued to work on their stories. They wrote the middle of their story, introducing a problem for their character.
P2 also enjoyed a visit to the school library on Wednesday. They will keep their book for three weeks and I’ll send out a reminder when they are due back in.

We continued to focus on multiplication, with pupils making their own arrays to show different calculations. In Multiplication Masters P2 have been working really hard practising their times tables. P2 finished off the week with an assessment on all the work they have been doing on shape.

As part of their Scotland topic pupils designed a new kilt for Katie Morag. They had some fantastic designs, I’m sure Katie Morag would love to wear them!

P2 also had a trip to Dumfries House on Tuesday. They practised making fires and den building in the morning and then got to visit the farm in the afternoon.

This week P2 have been revising the phonemes ‘oi’, ‘ow’ and ‘ou’.

In writing we have started to create a book about our characters. This week we focussed on describing the characters and where they lived.

This week we have been using arrays to help us multiply. P2 used arrays to write repeated addition and multiplication calculations. There was also lots of times table practise.

We continued to work on identifying 3D shapes too.

Camembear visited us in class and told us about some different French foods. P2 didn’t think they would like the taste of snails! P2 also told Camembear about some Scottish foods they thought he might like.
P2 have been reading Katie Morag stories. They worked together this week to create a map of the Isle of Struay and included places they had read about in the story ‘Katie Morag Delivers the Mail.’ We will add other places we discover as we read more Katie Morag.

This week P2 have been learning the ‘oi’ phoneme as in oil, boil and toilet. We have also been practising our common words. Our new common words this week were walk and want.
In writing we have been using the Mr Men books as inspiration to create our own characters which we will using in the coming weeks to write a story about. They created some fantastic characters including Mrs Hug, Mr Smart, Mrs Chocolate and Miss Princess.
Katie Morag’s cousin Rona has also been helping P2 to compare things and join sentences using the word ‘but’.
P2 have been playing lots of multiplication games this week, writing multiplication calculations and finding equal groups.
We have also been learning about 3D shapes including spheres, cylinders, cubes, cuboids and cones. They enjoyed sorting 3D shapes, building a castle with some of the 3D shapes and then writing down how many of each shape they had used.

In PE the pupils have been learning to play hockey. This week they learned how to do a push pass and practised this using lots of different games.

For our Katie Morag topic P2 have been learning about the Isle of Coll. After exploring Coll using Google Maps last week, this week we compared the features they had found with Catrine, to find which things were the same and which were different.

Tomorrow (Tuesday) pupils will be saying their Scots poem ‘The Dinosaur’ in class. We have been practising in class but please could they have a wee practise tonight. There is a link to the poem below.
Mrs Ferguson and I will choose 5 pupils to take part in the Scots Verse competition on Thursday.
