Weekly Round-up 28/11/25

Literacy

This week P2 have been learning the ‘ss’ phoneme as in mess, chess and class.  For their writing they wrote instructions on how to weave as they have been doing this in class when learning about textiles.

Numeracy

We have continued to work on adding and subtracting this week using counting on and counting back as a strategy to find the answer to our calculations.

Learning Across the Curriculum

Today we had a visit from PC Shirkie who talked to us about people who can help us and road safety.

Weekly Round-up 21/11/25

It has been  a really busy week this week with home circles, the Literacy Open Morning and Big Talks!

Big Talks

P2 did a fabulous job talking about what they want to be when they grow up. I loved all the posters and props they brought in to help them.

Literacy Open Morning

P2 really enjoyed the literacy open morning. Thank you to all those who attended.  A big thank you to P7 pupils who designed some of the activities the pupils took part in.

Weekly Round-up 14/11/25

Literacy

This week P2 have been learning the ‘y’ phoneme as in happy, funny and body. They have practised spelling ‘y’ words and their y letter formation.

In writing they have started to write instructions.  This week they wrote instructions on how to make a jam sandwich.

They continued to answer different types of questions about their reading books and also made their own scrambled sentences.

Numeracy

P2 have really been enjoying their multiplication masters.

They have  been learning to  add and have been focussing on number bonds to 20.

They will also be learning about measure and they brainstormed lots of words they know associated with measurement.

Learning Across the Curriculum

In science P2 have been learning about their senses.  They used blindfolds to find out what it might be like to be blind and then carried out some experiments using their other senses, including touch and smell, to identify mystery items.

They also coloured and made their own Pudsey pictures.

Big Talk

Just a reminder that it is Big Talk next week. Please send your child ready with their talk to present on the following days:

Tuesday –  Miller, Jessica, Coila, Charlie

Wednesday – Claye, Ethan, Rosa, Reuben

Thursday –  Fifer, Mirryn, Allie, Lyanna

Friday – Brie, Lucia, Riia

We can’t wait to hear about all  what they want to be when they grow up!

Literacy Homework

Pupils got a list of common words they have been practising to read and spell sent home with them today.  Please get them to read the words  to you  and then practise writing them using some of the activities from the spelling menu below.  This can be completed on the back of the spelling menu sheet they have in their bags and returned on Monday 17th November.

Big Talk

Please remember to complete your Big Talk homework from last week (I’ve re-posted the info below).  If you need any paper or have any questions then please just let me know.

This term Primary 2 pupils should prepare a talk about:

“When I grow up, I would like to be…”.

Your child should prepare and practise their talk at home and can bring in a picture, drawing or poster to help them.

P2 will present their talks on the week beginning Monday 17th November.

Some ideas to include in their talk could be:

What job would they like to do when they are older?

Why would they like the job?

What skills or equipment might they need for the job?

I look forward to hearing about what they would like to be.

Literacy

This week P2 wrote some fantastic descriptions of fireworks.  They used lots of colours and different adjectives to describe the sounds  fireworks make and how they look.

Our phoneme this week was ‘ea’ as in sea, tea and teacher.

Numeracy

P2 have been working hard on their adding, partitioning numbers using whole-part models and then writing the number sentence they have made.  They have also been practising their 2 times table.

Learning Across the Curriculum

In science they have been learning about different organs inside their body and what they do.  They have also been learning how to say different body parts  in French.

This afternoon they discussed why poppies are a symbol of Remembrance Day and created their own pictures of poppy fields.

Big Talk Homework

Twice a year, the children take part in our whole school ‘Big Talk Homework Challenge’.  This is where your child gets the opportunity to prepare and present a talk to the class.  The topic will change depending on the focus for that term.
