It has been an exciting week for us! Our classroom has been painted and we moved back into it this morning, just in time for Pudsey day.

We spent most of the week in the play area, a little treat for us. Here is what we have been up to:

We are learning about people who help us with Miss Smith. We have been learning all about what police officers do and how we can contact emergency Services.

In maths, we have been looking at comparing weight, using vocabulary like lighter / heavier and lightest / heaviest. We used cubes to measure how many cubes different toys weigh.

We had our first achievement assembly this week and celebrated everything that we have achieved in school and at home. Well done to everyone!

We had a great time doing some Pudsey activities today. We decorated our own Pudsey, did a Pudsey workout and listened to a Pudsey story. The best Pudsey even won a prize and we had the runner-up for the lower classes in our class – well done Mia!

We have been learning all about hedgehogs this week. Next week, we are planning to go into the garden to do some planting and we would like to build a hedgehog hibernation box with help from Maidsafe, too. The children have been fantastic at learning hedgehog facts and we painted, drew and made our own hedgehogs, too. We really improved our cutting skills as making our hedgehogs was quite a challenging job.

Primary 1s created their first description story last week and continued practising their writing this week. Primary 2s are also working on writing descriptions. When we were not working hard on writing and maths, we developed our skills doing different activities around the play area.

This week we will be working in our play area full time as our classroom walls are getting painted.

The classroom is all ready for this much needed refreshment and we will be able to return to it next week.

There has also been a change in our PE timetable. Children currently have Miss Smith as their teacher on a Tuesday whilst I work with small groups to support learning as well as taking on additional duties around the school. This is only temporary. However, Miss Smith will now do PE with the children on a Tuesday morning.

Our PE days are therefore on Mondays and Tuesdays for the time being. As we approach Christmas, children will also practise social dancing with P3/4 at the end of the week but they will not need to get changed into their PE clothes for this.

I will keep you updated on our classroom renovation and our progress this week. I’m aware that I have not given an update about last week and will do so as soon as I can.

This week we were having lots of Halloween fun but we have also been working hard.

Primary 1s practised their /k/ sounds and Primary 2s wrote lots of tricky words. We have also practised sentence writing, even Primary 1s! We looked at numbers to 20 and sequenced them, as well as adding numbers within 10. P2s looked at tens and ones in numbers. In art we used sponges to make scary monsters.

 

We have had lots of fun in our play area this week with some additional Halloween costumes for our dress up corner. We did lots of Halloween themed learning activities too!

This week we did one of our PE lesson outside and we had a choice of activities which we really enjoyed.

On Friday, we started the day with a costume parade. We then did Halloween stations with our buddies. We did some work in our class after break and then we had an amazing Halloween party in the afternoon. It was great fun!

It has been a busy week for us in Primary 1/2 despite just being back from the holidays.

Primary 1s learned their new phoneme o this week and we practised letter formation and blending and segmenting. Primary 2s looked at the phoneme <oa> and practised reading and writing oa words.

In maths, P1s are still practising counting and number recognition to 10 but we also started looking at the concept of addition. Primary 2s practised counting in tens and ones and we then looked at partitioning big numbers.

We did some fun art activities this week to hone our cutting skills and further develop our fine motor skills.

Next week will be all about Halloween and we will have a Halloween party at the end of the day on Friday! It’s promising to be a fun week!

This is a bit of a shorter update this week, mainly because we have been so busy that I often forgot to take pictures!

We have already started our new topic this week. We started off by looking for signs of Autumn and we did leaf rubbings. We also spotted signs of autumn on our autumn amble around the village! After the October holidays we will be exploring some Eco themes through our Litter Lab called Harriet’s Adventure.

We loved going on our Autumn Amble around the village to raise funds for our school. Thank you to everyone who sponsored us! It may have been a rainy day but that did nothing to dampen our spirits!

We also worked hard in the class this week, practising our maths and literacy. In art, we created beautiful autumn trees this week!

On Friday afternoon, our P7 buddies helped us with some structured activities. We enjoy spending time with our buddies.

 

 

This is a two week update so I’m afraid there are lots of pictures for you to look at.

We have been really busy doing our number work in class. Primary 2s have been finding numbers after and before to 100. Primary 1s have been counting to 5 and practising number formation and number recognition. We have also started looking at data handling and have explored bar graphs and tally marks as part of our topic.

In Literacy, Primary 1s have been learning and then revising the first block of sounds (s a t p i n). We have now started to practise blending and spelling our first CVC words. Primary 2s have been practising their reading and sentence writing.

We spent some time with our buddies again on Friday afternoon and had a great time.

I have finally managed to take some pictures of our social play in the play area as well as of some of our more structured daily activities. The children are doing a great job developing their social skills and are practising kindness, turn taking and patience.

Thank you so much for coming along to our stay and play afternoon. The children had a great time showing you around and telling you all about what they have been learning.

This week we have been learning new sounds in Primary 1, new spelling words in Primary 2 and we have been practising our numbers.

Primary 2s have started to look at numbers to 100 and we have done a lot of number formation in Primary 1. We are also practising number recognition. Everyone has worked really hard in maths this week!

Primary 1s learned the sounds i and p this week. We practised letter formation and started some blending, too! Primary 2s have been working hard on sentence writing. We try to write a sentence every day and did a great job with writing our news on Monday, too.

We have been enjoying different play activities in our classroom throughout the week. We practised painting using sponges and made beautiful pictures of our pets. We also improved our cutting skills. We also had a scavenger hunt to find pictures starting with our different sounds.

On Friday, we had a chance to spend time with our buddies who had organised some brilliant games for us. We had a super afternoon with them. Thank you buddies!

It’s been another very busy week in our classroom so this class update will be a bit lengthy, sorry.

We start every morning with different play activities that help us to practise some of the things we are learning in class at the moment. Some of our activities develop our motor skills and help us to practise turn taking and being kind.

In maths, P1s have been practising counting and we have started to practise number formation. Primary 2s have been revising numbers to 20. This week we have been looking at number words.

This week, Primary 1s learned the sound <t>. We have been doing lots of phonics work and have been practising to write t. Primary 2s have been practising sentence writing and have been doing a super job. We have also started Our reading and I will set up our new reading groups online as soon as possible so that you can practise at home.

We have been enjoying our P.E. lessons in particular. We are practising throwing and catching, team games, competitive games and have been improving our skills in station work.

On Friday afternoons, we get a chance to work with our big buddies. We may do sports activities outside or activities inside that develop our social skills and practise some of the things we have been learning in class.
