Final update of P1/2

Good Afternoon,

I cannot believe how fast the time has disappeared and the fun that we have all had throughout the year and that we are racing towards the end of the year. Sadly this will be our last blog update of P1/2 and what a busy time we have had since our last one.

We have been busy over the last few weeks with lots of activities: Our Jubilee lunch  celebrations, our visit to Blair Drummond and Sport Day as well as all our learning in the classroom.

We have been continuing with all our literacy and numeracy activities.

We have been learning to give directions, forwards and backwards to follow a simple route. We also explored programming the bee-bots to move across a grid.

We continue to practice our addition and subtraction facts and how quickly we can recall these.

In literacy we continue to develop and apply our spelling  and reading strategies through our tasks, with a focus on letter formation and handwriting presentation.

Below are a few snaps of what we have been up to.

Jubilee Celebrations:

We dressed up in all our finery and and made crowns:

Here are just a few of our amazing visit to Blair Drummond!

In PE we had been practicing our throwing , jumping, running, balancing skills  and skipping skills. Some of which we put to very good use during Sports Day.

Today’s special treat and a huge thank you to the Parent Council for organising for us all to have an ice-cream. It was the best end to this week.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank you all for your support and hard work with your young learners.  I am so proud of all of them and all that they have achieved throughout this year.  I wish you all a fabulous and restful Summer and hope the sun shines for us all.

Thank  you

P1/2 update 27/5/22

Welcome to our latest update and once again we have been busy at school.

They had great fun during walk to school week and it was lovely seeing them take part.

Literacy and numeracy continue to progress and we have been exploring different types of measure: length, weight and volume, and exploring these using non-standard units/standard units and different instruments of measure.

We have explored fractions, finding halves and quarters of shapes and amounts. P1 have also been developing addition and subtraction skills within 10 and doubles facts to 20.

P2’s have been practicing using commas in lists.

Through our topic and science work we have been learning about what things need to grow, (light, heat and water). We have explored the water cycle and carried out experiments to show what happens when water is heated and cooled, and how changes using the appropraite vocabulary, evaporation/condensing/freezing/melting.

We have made grass heads and are looking after them and observing their changes as they grow and ensuring they have what they need to grow.

We have explore sources of energy and had fun building a simple circuit.

We have made salt dough ( measuring out the ingredients) and then used it to make plaques of the planet which we have painted and experimented mixing primary colours.

The finished plagues.

Our grass heads after just a few days..

This morning…… look how they have grown.

We are looking forward to the Jubilee celebrations,  practicing our skills for Sports Day, and the visit to Blair Drummond.  Another busy few weeks ahead.

Have a great weekend and Jubilee holiday when it comes.

Update 6th May 2022 P1/2

Good Afternoon and welcome to our latest update for P1/2.

We have been busy, busy over the last few weeks.

We completed our Toys themed topic, where we planned, designed and made finger puppets. They had great fun creating some wonderful characters.

I would like to thank you for your help and support during our home Toys Challenge. The ideas that were presented were fantastic and each person presented, talked clearly and answered questions about the Toys they made. They then all had the opportunity to play with the Toys having a great time, co-operating, sharing and explaining.

In numeracy we continue to develop and apply our skills and strategies.

We have been exploring money recognizing and counting  coins, and applying number facts knowledge in giving change.

We have also been exploring measuring length using non-standard units and comparing lengths using the mathematical vocabulary.

I

In Art we have been exploring mixing colour, we made stained glass windows using cellophane and found that by putting different colours together a different colour. We have then extended this into mixing primary colours, blue and yellow chalks to create maps of the planet.

I hope you have enjoyed our update.

We took our number work outside too this week, drawing clocks and using objects found to make the hands and then challenging each other to make and read the time.

IDL: Toys

We have explored placing toys in a timeline working together in partners, looking at sequencing the years and learning about when some toys were invented.  We have explored forces and how much force needs to be used to move objects and investigated objects that sink and float. We have explored the forces of magnets.

I hope you are enjoying the Toy challenge and I look forward to seeing them and hearing all about them next Thursday 31st March.

Have a great weekend.
