This week, P1 have continued learning about letters and their sounds. We have been learning about the letter ‘a’. We are working hard to identify the letter sound and form it correctly. Here is a link to our ‘a’ Jolly Phonics song and action.

Some of us have been focusing on the ‘th’ sound, listening for it in words and practising reading and writing words containing our new sound. We have been working hard to use ‘th’ within words and sentences.

We continued developing our descriptive writing by drawing and describing a woodland setting, thinking carefully about the details we could include.  P1 also continued with Foundations of Writing, creating detailed drawings around  ‘Brushing Our Teeth’. We thought carefully about all of the little details that make our drawings tell a story.

In numeracy, we practised the correct formation of 8 and 9, as well as counting and ordering numbers. Some of us have also continued exploring place value, identifying the tens and units in different numbers. Some children challenged themselves even further by exploring three-digit numbers and identifying hundreds, tens and units!

 

As part of our Deep Dark Wood topic, we learned all about woodland food chains. We explored how plants and animals depend on one another for food. We had great discussions about what might happen to a food chain if one part disappeared.

In music, we listened carefully to different pieces of music and talked about how they made us feel. We also continued developing our ball skills, practising control, coordination and movement. We also worked on our skipping skills with Mrs Cook!
