This week’s homework is all about counting to 10. Please complete and return by Friday 26th September.
Thank you 😊
Monthly Archives: September 2025
Wk ending 18th Sept
This week Primary 1 have been practising the formation of numbers. We have had a focus on forming the digits 0, 1 and 2. We worked hard to form each number carefully and enjoyed learning helpful rhymes to help us remember how to form them correctly.
We were introduced to Felix the Firefly and used our ‘tickled pink’ and ‘green for growth’ system to discuss some feedback on our work.
“I am catching a ball”
We also worked very hard during our writing and created detailed drawings.
We investigated some more ‘wonders’.
“Where to find a rainbow” – Nuala
“about rainbows” – Ashlyn & Daisy-Mai
This week we also enjoyed spotting numbers around the village whilst out and about on our class walk.
Here are some pictures from our Numeracy morning. We loved sharing our classroom and learning with you all.
Lastly, thank you for all the returns so far of this weeks homework. Our next task will be issued when we return to school after the holiday. Have a lovely long weekend, everyone!
Homework Wk 1
This week is Week 1 of our three week numeracy homework. Homework will usually be given out on a Monday and due in on Friday but as this is the holiday week, it will be due in on Thursday 18th September. Please return completed sheet in the polypocket.
We are starting to learn about number formation this week so the task is to complete the number formation to 10 worksheet. They can also do more practise on the back. Remember you can look back at Friday’s post for a video about correct pencil grip too 😊
Wk ending 12th September
We’ve been continuing to work on writing our names this week.
We also continued our learning about syllables. We made pictures of some of our favourite foods and then counted the syllables in each word.
We also watched a video showing us the tripod grip we can use to hold our pencil correctly. Click on the video link below to watch it together at home too…

We also continued investigating and creating repeated patterns. We have made patterns with playdoh, peg boards, played Pattern games on the chromebooks, created pattern scarfs and decorated our home corner with lovely patterned wallpaper.
Later in the week, we worked in groups to continue some ‘caterpillar patterns’ on the big board and then used paint to continue some more! Some of us got very creative and made our own patterns using shapes. Some of us challenged ourselves to make more complicated patterns.
We started learning about our first ‘I wonder…’ this week. We talked about stars and constellations. We created some lovely art work to display in class.
On Friday, we had a chance to look at another ‘wonder’. Ayla had wondered about “feeling happy” and we had a lovely circle time talking about our emotions, what happiness is and the things that make us happy.
We went our first village walk this week too. We talked about how to stay safe when we are out walking around the village.
Wk ending 5th Sept
This week we have been continuing to settle into Primary One. We have been looking at rhymes and investigating numbers. We also finished our class charter display.
We also had a fantastic ‘stay and play’ afternoon. Thank you so much to everyone that managed to come along and see how well we have settled into Primary One…
This week we also looked at the rhyme ‘Twinkle Twinkle Little Star’. We had a chat about the word ‘wonder’ and then we talked about all the things we are wondering about. We had lots of exciting wonders like “where do you find a rainbow?” “are unicorns real?” and “how did stars get into space?”. We will be trying to find out the answers to some of our interesting questions over the next few weeks!
In the gym hall, we practised listening carefully to the rules of games such as ‘cat and mouse’ and ‘washing machine’. We had lots of fun with the parachute!
And here is a little sneak peak of our class photo. Look at how smart they all look 😊
