We have been learning to order days of the week and months of the year. This is something you could practise at home.

We also visited the school library this week. We hope you enjoy reading the books at home. Please return books next Friday.

Wk ending 31st January

This week we have been learning the ‘h’ and ‘w’ sound. We had formed our letters correctly, made hand hedgehogs, built homes and played hopscotch. We also built wooden worlds, drew webs, washed wild animals and explored the world.

We also investigated more tools to help us subtract. This week we used Rekenreks and Numicon.

We have been exploring different mindfulness techniques. This week we tried the Body Scanner and Bubble Bounce. I’ve attached a link below if you’d like to try them at home.

Hockey

This term we are continuing to work on our hockey skills. We will focus on pushing, receiving, travelling and shooting at a target.

Look at how good we are getting at holding the stick correctly!

Wk ending 24th Jan

This week we have been learning ‘u’. We played with underwater creatures, drew unhappy faces, designed umbrellas, built creations we could go under and practiced writing our sounds.

We have also been continuing to learn about subtraction. This week we used Number lines to help us.

We have been continuing to learn about Scotland and this week we used an Atlas to investigate the world. We drew our own maps of the world too.

We have been having a discussion about our feelings this week and have started our Emotions Check In.

Everyone worked so hard to learn their poem to perform to the class! It was SO difficult to choose who was going through to perform to the judges. We could have chosen them all! Well done everyone!

Wk ending 17th Jan

This week we have been learning the ‘o’ and ‘b’ sound.  We have been learning how to form the letters properly as well as working in an office, drawing an octopus, ordering the alphabet, making octagons, bathing babies with bubbles, reading books, playing Buckeroo, building bridges with the blocks and making ‘b’ with buttons!

We have started learning about Subtraction this week.  We have investigated different tools we can use to help us.  This week we used our fingers and cubes.

We continued learning about Scotland this week too.  We have been exploring Google Earth to find Scotland, Catrine and our houses…

During our weekly walk we were very lucky to pass Coila’s house and her mum very kindly showed us Coila’s new pet.  Look at little Twinkle!  Big thanks to Coila’s mum for showing us!

We have also been learning how to play the Glockenspiel along to music this week.

And not forgetting, we had GREAT fun with cardboard boxes!

Scottish Poem Homework

Please find attached (and sent home today) a copy of the Primary 1 Scottish poem for our whole school Scots Competition.  This should be practiced at home over the next two weeks.  The children will have an opportunity to recite their poem in class and then one pupil will be chosen to perform during our whole school Scots Celebration.

Bus Queue

By J K Annand

Waitin for the bus

A wifie made a fuss.

Said it wasna fair

To keep us standin there.

Seemed to think she spoke

For aa the ither folk.

Ach we dinna care,

Hou long we waited there.

We played the game ‘I spy’

And time fair stottit by.

We wadna get the blame

If the schule bus never came.

What a busy first week back!

In numeracy, we revised addition and tried out all our tools to discover which one we preferred using.  The tools we used were our fingers, cubes, Numicon, Numberlines and Rekenreks.

In literacy, we were learning the ‘f’ sound.  We painted flowers, drew foxes, built farms and played with food.  We also walked to see a farm during our weekly walk.

We also started reading our own books this week.  We were so excited to read!

We started our new topic this week, Scotland. We all made Scottish flags using crayons, paper and lollipop sticks. We also started learning our Scots poem for the whole school competition.  Look out on the blog next week for more information.

The class worked together as a team to create a fantastic building…
