Week ending 14/02/25

It’s been a short week but we have still managed to pack lots in!

Our sound this week was ‘y’  and we built a yacht, designed yoghurt pots and practised our common words on yellow post it notes.

In maths we were introduced to the analogue clock and found it very funny that it has two ‘hands’.  We made our own clocks and have taken these home.  You could use these to practise making o’clock times at home as we will be learning this in class over the next few weeks.  Also, have a look out at home, or when you are out and about, for all the places that we can see the time displayed.

We are coming to the end of our hockey block in PE and this week we used all the skills we have learned to play mini hockey games.  Look at how happy we were when we scored a goal!

Friday 31st January

We have been learning to order days of the week and months of the year. This is something you could practise at home.

We also visited the school library this week. We hope you enjoy reading the books at home. Please return books next Friday.

Hockey

This term we are continuing to work on our hockey skills. We will focus on pushing, receiving, travelling and shooting at a target.

Look at how good we are getting at holding the stick correctly!

Homework Week 4: Writing

This week’s homework task is story writing.

At the beginning of Primary 1 we have been focusing on adding details to our drawings in order to tell a story.  We have focused on facial features (eyes, eyelashes, eyebrows, nose, mouth, chin) as well as ears, hair, neck and body.  We then concentrated on what our arms and fingers would be doing then focused on our legs and feet.

Now that we are learning our sounds we are beginning to use these to make words and sentences focusing on letter formation, capital letters, finger spaces and full stops.

The homework task this week involves pupils drawing a detailed picture for the story, ‘I am building bricks’.  Pupils should focus on all the details above as well as including their building blocks in the picture.

Some pupils may want to copy the sentence.

I look forward to seeing all the super drawings.
